Who tests their water?

I'm a bit lazy when it comes to water testing and in the past I would only test when problems came up....now that one of my sons is in college (majoring in Biology) he tests my water every week. Now none of my sons really help with the up keep on the tank but having someone test the water works out great for me

I'm interested to know if those of you that test the more unusual parameters such as K, Fe, and Iodine notice big swings in them?>

Nope, no big swings. Fe and K usually test zero...I have a hard time getting them off of flat line. Iodine typically runs 0.06ppm without much trouble.

I test Alkalinity daily and everything else (Calcium, Magnesium, Nitrate, Phosphate, and salinity) weekly

I don't test for anything. Temp and salinity when I do large water changes.

Two of my tanks have chillers, so I guess I always see those temperatures.

I test on Sunday nights at approximately the same time. Temp., Salinity, pH, Nitrates, Calcium, Alkalinity, Magnesium, Phosphates. Once a month I test for Iron, Phosphorous and Iodine. All testing is done with Red Sea Test Kits to insure consistency and hopefully a lessening in variability. When needed I will adjust to test for any reading that falls outside my desired parameters. Enjoyed your video very much.

The only tests for the components mentioned are color comparison tests.. As far as those tests, I'm colorblind..Just cannot read them.

Do you really test daily? How often do you find significant changes that need adjustments?[/QUOTE]

I have a small tank, and dose 2 part. I need to adjust the dosing time for alk fairly frequently to maintain stability. Drift can easily be 3ppm per day. I could probably measure every other day, but am paranoid :)

Salinity when I do a water change and I have a digital thermometer so I can read temps every time I walk by. Other than that I leave it alone.

75 gallon cube. 8 t5 24" bulbs
Trade and sell coral 3-4 times a week. So things change often. 20% Water changes from the ocean (scripps) every 1-2 weeks tons of cleanup crew, a good ato with rodi. i test salinity every water change, temp every day. And try to do a full work up of tests every 2-3 months. Everything grows in my tank.
