Who Uses Rod's Food?

im going to try it! i have heard more good then bad

I've been using the original for years now... and the Fish Only blend for maybe the past year... Never had trouble with cloudiness and what not.... and this is in my SPS tank....

I even see my finicky pod eaters (manderin, red scooter blenny) eat the Rod's food...

Highly recommended!

Heard good things about rods, but also heard it affects h2o quality.

I will be making my own reef food in the next couple weeks, and also picking up some of roggers reef food. I have heard amazing things about this, and want to try it for myself.

Been using it for a few years but slowly going back to PE Mysis to keep the tank cleaner.

Always interested when people state things about Rod's Food such as it affects water quality. I've been using his blends for years (his coral blend since July in my NPS tank) and have never had it have any negative effect on anything. Fish and corals aggressively feed when it's in the water and all are as healthy as can be. It is very "rich" and you do have to be careful how much you put in the water, but it is a superior product and I recommend it to anyone.

Here is a quote from their site:

"All ingredients go through an extensive rinsing process to rid our food of the STTP (sodium tripolyphosphate) that many of the freshest seafoods are initially preserved with.

We believe that when you pay for food, you should receive food! No unnecessary gels or food binders are added to Rod's Food. And our foods are not water packed!. Most users are amazed by how a small amount of Rod's Food can feed an entire reef. A little goes a long way!"

I think my problem with Rods Reef is that I feed too much of it, haha. I've actually been bringing my feeding down, as I generally feed heavy.

I also won some Rod's Food (original) in a frag swap raffle and have been very pleased with it. My fish seem to like it best of the four different frozen foods that I alternate. I'm glad I won it because the price would have scared me a little. Now that I have used it for a while and know how good it is I'll buy more when I run out. I haven't noticed any cloudiness but do not keep a pristine SPS tank with crystal clear water that it would stand out in.

Jim, I'll try to remember to contact you when I road trip up to Premium with the guys so I can pick some up for you. I don't think anyone in Louisville carries it.

I have used rod's original for years and only have a problem if I over feed. The fish go crazy for it. I have less experience with his newer products. Have only used a sample pack of two but again nothing but good reaction to it.

Is rods enough for corals or are you also feeding corals?

yeah, rods should be good enough to feed corals as well. It has a TON of stuff in it, from large chucks for your fish to tiny tiny stuff that your corals should appreciate.

In the short amount of time I have been in the hobby, 1 yr now, I have only feed rods food. And everything from fish to lps to sps seem to do just fine.

I've tried most of the products offered by Rod's and I really like them all. I feed a wide variety of food, but Rod's is the primary food that I use. I like that the food particles vary in size making it a great all purpose food for coral, fish, and inverts. No issues with cloudiness for that long. Water clears up usually within 10-15 minutes after feeding.

I have used both the coral formula and the orginal formula. The fish love it!
I have never had an issue with cloudiness from using it either.

I tried to use the Predator ones, as I thought my bigger fish would enjoy it. But I found the chunks were just too big for my tank. I generally use the Herbivore or the Regular type.

I just used some to the "Coral Forumla" this morning. I used about a piece the size of a dime. I dissolved it in a cup of tank water and then put it in. That was 9 am this morning now 4:30ish. Tank looks cloudy and crappy still. Anyone else have any experiences with this stuff?
I dissolve the food in tank water , strain, and add more tank water after straining
