Why are my leathers all closing up at the same time?

Hello, my learners are doing pretty well. I just restarted my tank and it’s going through the whole cycle with ammonia being at 1ppm I believe and still going down. Phosphate I’m not sure. But I was wondering by only my leathers close up all at once?

Ammonia won’t bother corals, they don’t have hemoglobin. How long have leather been in the tank since you restarted it?

I’m assuming from restarting the tank. But it’s been cycling since July 1st. But there’s still ammonia and I’m not sure where it’s coming from. There is no fish just a clean up crew. Could it possibly be a dead clean up crew producing it? I am not feeding anything they are grazing off the diatoms forming and small bits of algae or food they can find on my previous live rock that I saved before I restarted it

They’ve been through some pretty rough things but I had nowhere else to put them so I just had to leave them in the tank. So since July 1st it has been cycling

Bit of a side track but you’ve had an issue with Dino’s it seems, but you don’t know what your phosphates are? Bit dangerous isn’t it?, lol.

I used to have a couple of finger leathers that used to sulk a lot. I imagine a little ammonia could trigger an event of shedding though they don’t need much of a reason in my experience and it may indeed just because they are acclimating to the new tank setup, flow, light, bacterial dominance in the mucus layer, being messed with, there’s a myriad of possibilities including just going into “night mode”, or ridding itself of contaminants.

As of 2:51 they have been closed not sure for how long before but couldn’t have been to long. As for the mother colony it has ll polyps sort of coming out of it some extending more then others

I would ask the questions here if I were you. I have zero first hand experience with dinos, if that's what it's about.

Not about Dino’s, just about the tank itself on good ways to lower nutrients in my 50 gallon not my 90. I can put my parameters here if you would like

I guess your light starts to ramp down about that time? Maybe your white light perhaps.

Totally possible they are reacting to a as yet unknown environmental variable

I think they just do this from time to time…
for instance all mine are looking funky right now and my plans are to do nothing…

Most likely shedding, let ‘em be for now if your other corals look good
