Why buyer pays PayPal fee ???

It annoys me when gas stations do that crap too. I will never use my credit card at a gas stations that charges more for using a credit card, unless I am running on empty and have no cash on me. I try to avoid these gas stations in general. It is just tacky.

Gas stations doesn't charge you more for using the credit cards. The credit price is the station price. The gas station gives discount to people who pay cash.

It is illegal to charge more to a person paying by credit bUT it is perfectly legal to give customers a cash discount.

You are not paying more for credit . Credit price is the station price. Cash customers are given a discount.

I said, "I would rather have the seller include his fee's in the sale price, without me knowing".

Really...they sure do in Michigan....there is a cash cost and a credit cost at most stations...been that way since 2001 for sure...you just might not be paying attention....these are national chains such as Mobil, Exxon, and BP.....if it is illegal, nobody is enforcing it....I can show you signs that say

The big issue with PayPal fees, is that when a seller lists an item for sale....most of us are expecting someone local will buy it and cash will be the method of payment....when you want to sell things to non-local reefers, nobody complains hen you need to pay extra for the shipping....how is this different ? Am I supposed to say:
Zoa's For Sale
Local $30.00
Non-local $45.00?
Most people would just be appalled....AND I take the risk of shipping the item....but if it is not offered, it might not sell locally. Then what?

Hahaha that is right. I was replying to poster that said they charge more for credit. You cannot charge more for credit.

But you can give cash discount.

So station make credit price the real price. Cash price is then discounted.

But your looking at it from your perspective as the seller. As the buyer you wanting to sell thing necessitates you accept PayPal. And for that convenience you pay a fee. I have sold stuff all the time and look at PayPal fees as a convenience fee to be able to sell to anyone in the country rather than right around my house.

Look at it this way. PayPal created a way for the buyer to pay the fees. Since its offered as an option people will use it. If no one used it they would remove that feature. I sometimes offer to pay fees when buying as part of a bargaining chip. Other times I ask buyers to pay as a bargaining chip. I don't list things and state buyer must pay, but it's added into my asking price.

This topic always comes up, I sell stuff from time to time. It's up to both parties, I usually have them either pay for it or send it as gift. If I need the money or it took a while to sale then I'll eat the fees. Some buyers don't care about a few bucks and rather pay for the fees then send as gift for protection. Either way if you don't want to pay the PayPal fee then it's more then likely your loss as your the one that wants the item.

What people need to understand is that if you send money as a "gift" to avoid either the seller or buyer paying the pittance of a PayPal fee, they lose all protection afforded to them by PayPal. We have a situation like this in our local reef club. The buyer got suckered into sending a couple hundred dollars to the seller as a gift and he never got his corals. He is out a lot more than the measley few dollars that should have been paid to PayPal. He can't call PayPal now and complain that his transaction went bad, because he sent someone a "gift." Please, don't ever send money for a business transaction as a gift. It just may end up that way.

The fee for a $100.00 transaction is $3.30. If I was the seller, I would more than be willing to pay a few bucks for the convenience of getting my money right away.

The one that I'm talking about that gets me is say u were buying an item and settled on an agreed upon price then sellers says oh I also want you to pay my fees. No I'll paid the price we agreed upon. You should have factored the fee costs into it. And saying it's their loss cuz they want to buy it, don't u want to sell it also? If I was going to lose a sale over a few dollars from something I wanted to sell I'd be happy to eat it and have some money than none.
