Why buyer pays PayPal fee ???

I would rather have the seller include his fee's in the sale price, without me knowing. That way, I don't know that he's a jerk.

Asking for me to pay HIS,......FEE, is bad taste and business practice.
I could never,......ask anyone to pay my advertising cost.

If you're selling, expect to pay your own advertising cost, whether it's a car in your newspaper or skimmer here !

You don't think retailers build cost of advertising, marketing, as well as any other costs of doing business into the product pricing?

Should have thought about this a little more. Manufacturers do this, but retailers are kinda stuck with the pricing.

It is against paypal rules to ask buyer to pay the fees.
I will say this I would rather pay the fees than send as a gift.

It is nice to see R2R changed the rules so this does not happen here.. Two thumbs up on that!!!!

Yea ebay double dipping on fees when you sell on ebay has got way to high... i used too sell on ebay alot and rarely do anymore.

Everyone up sales to compisate for there added cost, fees, and taxes. Manufacturers make something for $15 and sell it for $150 and the retail turns around and adds another $100 to it, all of this is to make a projected profit and pay for the taxes and fees for selling. It shouldn't be any different with private sales

Yup those are the hidden cost of busineess an the fees are included in the asking price which is and business is supposed to be conducted. The retailer doesn't set a price then ask the customer for an additional x amount to cover their fees which is basically what this thread is about. Don't ask me to pay your fee, just include it in the asking price like you should.

Yes they do what do you think tax is it a sale transaction fee that the business passes on to the customer

Sorry bud but your wrong. That sales tax is state/city regulated and enforced. They make the seller charge a sales tax because it's easier than putting that responaibility on the consumer to send in money to pay tax on each purchase

Sales tax is a tax on an item being sold yes it is regulated by state but it doesn't not have to be passed to the customer people are lead to believe it does because all business do it the government does not care who pays the tax as long as it's paid so they get their cut. But businesses don't want to loss more money on the sale so they pass the buck to the customer. And this was thought to me by economic teacher that has a degree in it

Thanks you just agreed with some of what I said to a degree. Sales tax is something the STATE or CITY makes YOU the buyer pay. It's just easier to have the seller charge you for it so they (city/state) don't have to hunt you down. Sales tax does need to be paid by you so that's why the seller charges you for it, they don't want to pay what your (the buyer) supposed to. when you don't see +tax you'll instead see tax included. so yes your right they don't care who pays it as long as it's paid. I don't need an economic teacher (which I've had) to know this, i have experience running small business and dealing with payroll, taxes etc. anyways sorry for hijacking thread op I'll stay on topic for now on.

Me also as I'm currently running my own company. I'm not really here to argue semantics I do agree that is a whole lot easier just to include the fee in the asking price then it is asked for it afterwards but in either case it shouldn't really matter in the end if you want a product pay what the seller is asking or they will find somebody that will

Also by that point you made look at the fee as sales tax from PayPal witch according to you should be paid by the customer.

Sorry but your wrong again. That paypal fee is for processing/facilitating the transaction (it is their fee for providing a service to the seller) That money doesn't go to state or city, it's their expense for being a selling/buying platform.

It's PayPal wanting their cuts of the sale just like the government wanting their cut of the sale

It's comparing apple to apple PayPal 3% for using their service government x-x% for allow you to sell in that state

I've never asked anyone to pay the fee. I figure it's a cost of the convenience of getting my money now. I recently sold something and the buyer voluntarily paid the fee without me asking which I thought was a very kind gesture. We take credit cards as payment where I work and we don't require the person paying to pay the card processing fee which when most bills are in the thousands adds up quickly. Whereas if they paid cash we wouldn't have that. It's just a cost of doing business.

It annoys me when gas stations do that crap too. I will never use my credit card at a gas stations that charges more for using a credit card, unless I am running on empty and have no cash on me. I try to avoid these gas stations in general. It is just tacky.

They charge extra when you use a credit card because a % of your sale has to be paid to their credit card processor. In order for them to accept your credit card as payment, they have to pay a company for the terminal, processing whatever. I'm just saying it's not free for them to accept your credit for purchase, they have to pay someone else. It's one big annoying circle lol

Most states require sales tax whether or not the purchase was in state and whether or not the business charges it. If the business does not charge sales tax you are supposed to pay it to the state yourself. Most people do not because a) they didn't know they were supposed to and/or b) they can (for now) get away with it.
