Why Did My Seahorse Pass?

The angle she has her tail held at, that's not normal. I've seen it a 1000 times in horses with injury/infection issues of that area.

The color is also that of a stressed/sick horse, but that's pretty common when you first get them.

The trigger is out (green arrow) indicating either a "stuck trigger" issue or increased work of breathing. In your instance it is NOT a stuck trigger, but the latter.

The diameter of the snout (purple line) in too wide. That's usually from increased work of breathing and/or a swollen snout. I believe yours to be both. The picture right below it, you can see the trigger is relaxed and yet the diameter is unchanged.

The blue arrow is pointing to snout tip which is way too rounded. That's swelling. There also looks to be some broken skin integrity or whiteness to the very tip.

The red is the arrow I already had pointing to the lympho.

Thank you for all the pointers! But yes it indeed was my nitrate that got to 5ppm, not my nitrite.
The trigger in which you are pointing to was all the way out when he passed.

Here are my concerns with my new one: No it was never in contact with the other seahorse I got, this was a new shipment. But she is showing some signs of odd breathing in addition to two small but notable white lumps on her body.
I got two this time, and the male is acting completely normal. Absolutely normal breathing, perfectly fine body. But the female like I said has a few weird behaviors. She found a spot and got comfy but she's leaving her mouth open for extended periods of time.

If something goes wrong with these ponies I definitely will never buy from that store any more. Here's pics of notable things from female:

White lump on her head. But it's like attached to something stringy so idk if something just landed on her

occasionally (not as often as the first seahorse did) (but still frequent) she is taking very large breaths.

She's calm now though, breathing has slowed, and her tail is curled properly around her desired hitching area. But still don't know what the white things are + if the breathing is going to stay calm or not

NitrAte of 5 is nothing. You'll see higher than that in the future.

What is your temp? What was the LFS temp? Was this one from the same batch as the one that died, or did the LFS get this one in afterwards? How long has this one been at the LFS if different? Did they share water with other fish?

I specifically asked for a female and they all insisted this one was a girl. But it isn't a big deal if that isn't the case. But since I do have two in there it'd be nice to know both their sexes

This one was at the store for only 5 days. It is a new batch that wasn't with the sick one, and wasn't in the water with anyone other types of fish. Just seahorse.

Their temp was 74, mine is at 75.4 according to my thermometer.

Wait what? There's two? Picture #2 is absolutely, 100% a male.

yes while I was there today I went ahead and got a second because he said he had a male and a female in stock. but obviously he doesn't know what he's talking about

I see the pouch now too. So I guess I have two males. The breathing has calmed from the male I showed pics of. I just wish I knew what the weird white things were. I'm probably overthinking it now since what happened to my first one.
I fed them tonight and they were alert and ate well, which is a good sign

@SeahorseKeeper, do you know anyone selling larger CB/TR kudas? The black female looked fine, except for being sick, but that male looks like..... cull. O.O There's also been alot of hybrids floating around.

I just do not have a good feeling about these horses, wherever it is they are coming from.

That's the one that is breathing a little off. Obviously wherever it is these people are getting their seahorses supplied from isn't good, or they just take awful care of them in stores. The place I bought from has a website too, I can link you to it

EDIT: I read that wrong. I thought it was a seahorse place. Don't get any more horses from this place.

Evidently the kuda are going out larger CB than they used to, @SeahorseKeeper, so my assumption may have been incorrect. What my friend said about the yellow one was that "not enough people cull....". O.O It was odd I had said the same thing earlier.

If the opportunity arises, tell them they ID'd the sex incorrectly. It's really easy if they take a gander online for the information. They owe at least that much to their customers.
