I would always cut the daily photoperiod down to three or four hours, then over the course of a week or maybe two I would bring it back up to normal.

47k is pretty much in the sweet spot.

Brighter than your old light, but definitely in the same neighborhood.

So 50,000 lx is about 50% of direct sunlight. They say that corals at their maximum depths can be sustained on about 1% of direct sunlight.

If your tank is about 24,000 lux in the shady zones, you're still in good lighting conditions as far as I'm concerned. That's about the peak intensity all the way across my second SPS tank (lit w/gu10's).

What may or may not be a problem (for you) is how shady those zones may appear next to that 50,000 lux zone in the center. :-) Sounds ideal for the corals though.

Here is a tank shot, you can see it get darker the farther away from the middle.. Not placed any frags permanently yet so it's pretty barren :cool:

Love the spectrum and coverage of my 1 400w radium, 4 t5, and 2 blue led reefbrite over my 32x32x26 cube. It's such an efficient lighting on a tank of these dimensions. Halide runs for only 5 hrs daily. Whole lighting system with new bulbs cost me $800, used Giesemann Spectra, but $300 of it was for reefbrites :(

Beautiful Jackson!! My tank is a 40b, and I don't think 1 lumenbright is going to cut it on 36".. I'm thinking I need 2 with 250w radium's instead of just 1:(. The edges drop off considerably..I have the reflector just need to find a used ballasts and get another bulb

Thanks Redneck 1 mh in a 20" diamond reflector lights 30x30 very bright. You're not going to place corals to the ends of the 36" reef so IMO you will be fine with 1 halide. Only thing is the light spray width-wise is going to be pretty bad. On a 40 breeder I would probably run a 6 bulb Ati t5

I love my halides. Been running the same reflectors since my first tank 2 1/2 years ago. Lumen max elite 250w de with xm 20k bulbs. Id like to add some t5s eventually to supplement. Ill get better pictures tomorrow since ive cleaned the algae off the glass since these pictures

Yea not sure what type of led you get for that price. Or coverage and par compared to that price of mh or t5. But i don't think led at that price it would last 50,000 hrs. But you could get good pair of 250 mh enough for a 120 gallon tank. How many led fixtures would you need, 4-6?
