Why so many gyres for sale?

only speaking from my experience co owner Motor city corals, Gyres have a terrible issue with pulling in objects and blowing blades apart sometimes destroying the whole wheel, they give you some cheap foam that wraps around the whole cage on the outside but that cuts outward flow to almost nothing. I have solved that problem i put a piece of screen across the bottom where it intakes water and clean it once a week works awsome no more problems. As for Jebaos they work great havent got 1 to last longer then 8 months and i have had dozens there cheap but after buying more and more you could have just bought a Eco Tech mp 40 or 60. I have great luck with those only replacing a wet side every couple years and i run at 100% all the time. They all have there issues take your pick!!

Jebao is rarely for sale because they don't live that long.... Can't really sell a dead unit. Gyre is a bit over hyped. I have one and can say that I won't buy another. Back to Vortech after this.

People are led to believe to have great flow you need a lot of power. Its new and bigger and better problem. Powerheads are a tool with a specific purpose and application..Some are very flexible and can be used is many situations. Jabos eco's among them. So people keep them. The gyre is a pretty specific tool. Like a Tunze wavemaker box. So for the every-man a an adjustable head is the better bet.
Getting a feel for how much power you need unfortunately is a matter of experience with the tool. So for new reefers, its great to have the used to play with.

Gyres have a ton of negative reviews I have 2 jaboes RW8 for 14 months and they going strong!

i just bought one . ive had it aboot 3 weeks and i love it . i have a 220 thats 6 feet long and have it set at about 60% and it has alot of flow . granted i havent had it a long time but so far its great
Everywhere I look they 4.5-5 stars...thats pretty good.
The gyre kind of eliminates the need to direct the flow

so i just went on google and searched reviews and it got a 4.7 out of 5 start from 90% of the people who bought it . the bad reviews weer stupid imo . one guys fish tried to graze off it and messed up its lips which is not the gyres fault. the other a snail got caught in the impeller which may be their fault or not . but like i said so far i like mine.

Interesting posts here. From what I hear here, I'll likely go with Tunze again. I have a Tunze nano steam 6040 for 6+ months. so far so good. It has a strong draw so material within a certain distance with draw to it etc. This is likely true with all the pumps. (I have a bare bottom tank to) Use what works for you. The gyres are still in their R&D stages. Gen. 3 will likely be the one to have. God Luck All

When you got yours did you think it was made poorly? Because I have read two reviews saying that. But everything else is positive. Plus I believe the blades have been improved since those reviews. What do you think of the flow in your take with it and are you running it by its self or with another powerhead?

I've had mine for 10 months on my 57 gallon tank and love it. I had two MP10s and it replaced them. If mine was to break I'd buy another. My only downfall is I have very fine sand so I can't turn it up as much as I'd like, but that's my fault. My next tank will just use different sand.

For what its worth I posted a gyre for sale a while back simply because I had bought 2 and realized it was way too much flow. I have a single 150 on my 40 x 26 x 20 tank and its kept at 60% because if I turn it up more than that it's overkill. I replaced 2 MP40's with that. I was running both of the vortechs and 100% and the flow wasn't nearly as much.

I got the new blades and they do make a major difference in flow and noise. I've had a XF130 for over a year with no problems above what you would experience with any other pump. Can't beat for laminar flow over a longer distance. I'm only operating @ 30%. Just my $.02.
