Ok so I have lots of different anemones and I've never had any split? I have 2 big bta's that can be a foot big sometimes. Will they ever split?

I think most split when conditions are poor. They split to try and stay alive. Do you feed yours?

You can force them to if you want. Stress will make them split as well as bad water which again is stress. Also if you follow lunar cycle and temp swings with lunar they have been known to split. You could also just cut them half or quarters.

BTA's split when they are stressed so it means you are doing a good job with the tank!

E. Quadricolors will split both when conditions are poor and good.

There is some thought that there are 2 types of E. Quadricolors, colonial ones that split and solitary ones that don't.

Show you the photo to let you see my Anemone Island. Today its about 6 BTA's and 5 Rose Anemones. This is an older photo, 2 year, but today my tank is mostly SPS, acropora, with a few LPS. And I say all that to let you know there is no room in my aquarium for poor water quality, although it could happen. These started as one of each. I feed them like crazy and they seem to start splitting. Not saying this is how to do it, most likely a coincident, but thats when they seemed to split for me. Over the past year I really feed them nothing. Each has split once but nothing like before when I was feeding almost daily.

RBTA only split under extreme conditions... it could take 1 day after bought to split or 7 years. I no longer purchase these because if they die or erect posion while slpiting, some softies or sensitive corals will die... but if you want them to split take them out and put them in colder sea water then back into a warmer sea water mix. only need 2 degree diffrences. They will shrivel up and after a day or two they should split. -v- hope it does and goodluck!!! (=

Well it's the 2 on the left

It would be a mission to take out that rock

Be careful what you wish for. Plenty of reefers are plagued with too many anenomes and are forced to break the tank down to sell off a bunch of them in order to keep enough room for their corals.

Thanks,,, I feed them reef supreme and more krill on top cause my sweetlips loves it

I wish that was my problem! :)

Just cut it in half. Good video on bulk reef supply

They don't have to remove 400lbs of LR.
But ya I seen the video today from brs and the anemone was like 4" in diameter,,, also looked like a rock anemone for some reason

Try feeding a piece of scallop or raw shrimp 3-4 days a week and that should be enough to help induce a split.

Agreed...
Anyone that says they only split under poor conditions has no idea what they are talking about.

To me the key too splitting has always been lots of food.

Some of the rose anemones are thought to be two different types and one splits less and can get very large.

I second this. I have had my rose bubble for over 2 years now. It started as 1 and grew very large and has since split multiple times
