Why won't my anemones split?

Agreed...
Anyone that says they only split under poor conditions has no idea what they are talking about.

To me the key too splitting has always been lots of food.

Some of the rose anemones are thought to be two different types and one splits less and can get very large.

I don't say they ONLY split under poor conditions, but that is usually the case more times than not.
It's an animal that lives a very long time, 50-100 plus years, so the need to reproduce often is normally not needed.

I disagree. I have raised 100 of bta's and so has one of my friends.. In poor conditions they will usually decline and die most likely depending how poor.
Actually in bad conditions they they will spawn sometimes too..

Splitting is risky for a anemone especially when conditions are not good. And why split the two halves would be next to each other in the same risky conditions. Spawning alows the anemone to be in a new area...

do they split sometime during bad conditions sure..

To me food and growth that has made them split most of the time.....

The splitting often results in at least one traveling or wandering, basically seeking better conditions in which to thrive, they do not know they are in a contained system that will not allow any adjustment other than light or flow.
You will see most common is a BTA will split often after being placed in a new tank, the shock of new params.
Your feeding could stress them as well if overfed, and that too often results in a split, in fact this is often the safest way to induce a split, and usually works w/ BTA's.
I too have kept a great many sea anemone's over the past 30 years, nem/clown relationships have been my main focus, so just going by my own experience and reading/observations of others over the years.
Of course there can be some other variables that can affect people's experience's in keeping them.
