So, long story short, I went on a one day vacation and came back to find my Pygmy Angle Gurkey missing. She was like a family member and I am devastated. There are do signs of her jumping and no remains of her in the tank. She is just gone. The only conclusion I can come to is that my brittle star got her. Gurkey was fat and healthy when I left and I can imagine her getting sick and dying in 24 hours. My brittle star is huge and I have been trying to catch it with no luck. When I do catch him, I am going to burn him with fire :(

R.I.P Gurkey :( :( :(

Sorry for your loss. By chance is it a giant green brittle....I've heard that they are masters at catching fish.

No, it is a grayish black color. It hides almost all the time but comes out from under his rock every once in a while to eat.
I want to catch him so bad I don't know what to do :mad::mad:

So sorry that you had to come home to her being gone after having such a great weekend. I know you miss her:(

It was a sour ending to a really fun weekend. It is also a bad start for exams :(

When my fish die, i very rarely find any remains. They just disappear one day. I just lost an engineer goby i had for about 5 years. Just not in my tank one day.

We just put a Brittle Star in our new tank on the recommendation of a LFS.. this is the FIRST bad thing I have read about them. Will the eat peppermint shrimp?? I bought three but have only seen two for several days now. Now you have me wondering.

What color is the brittle star and how big?
I don't know too much about brittle stars. I just think mine might have eaten Gurkey because there isn't enough food for him in my tank. I bought the brittle star when it was still kind of small and now it is way to big for my tank. I just don't think there is enough for it
How big is your tank?

This is the day we put him in the tank. Before he found his hiding spot...

He is a black/grey.. LFS told us he would eat detritus and help clean the substrate. However he rarely come out of his hiding spot even at night. Does stick a leg or two out at feeding time...

Tank is a 180g

Your tank looks relatively big. I think my brittle star is mostly just bad luck because It had also killed some of my corals by dragging them under his rock never to be seen again. I just don't think he is getting enough food.
Most people who own these have no problems at all. I wouldn't worry about it
Sorry to scare you :p

Lol it seems the way of this hobby. Some people have good luck with fish, inverts, corals, equiptment ect.. others don't.

I can relate to the brittle start, I had one in my old tank, each arm was about 6 inch long and when I had a weak fish there where gone just like that, but there are good bottom cleaner. They have they pro but at the long run is just a judgment.

This same brittle star has kille several coral drags because he though they were food. He also killed one of my favorite CUC members, my fighting conch. His name was Conchkowski (I'm not even a patriots fan:D)
