I have bought both of these colonies from 2 different and reputable sellers. Both at close inspection appear to be purple death, but look at the shade and size difference. Anybody know why? both have been in the same tank for some time, so perameters are the same!!!!

my guess would be the ones on the left, all the purple deaths i have seen look more like those

I have placed purple death frags in many different tanks with many different lighting conditions. I believe both of those very possibly are purple death, but the smaller ones were exposed to way too much light. The ones that I have exposed to high amounts of light looked just like that and took several months to even start and come back, even though they continued to grow, their color and size is slow to come back. All of my purple deaths have come from my one colony, so I know for a fact you can make them look a number of different ways depending on conditions. If I had to say, I would bet they were both purple death.

now that he says that i think i agree, they both have the same exact features expect the ones on the right look bleached out

Seems like the smaller polyps were a bit darker when I 1st got them in.

Maybe this will help all of these are from the same colony Just under different lights

hmm now that he post his pics the second ones dont really look really like any pds ive seen

The point of my pic is they change a lot. The pic that looks close with the light colored one is the one I bleached a few months ago but in that pic the color started to come back and the skirt got longer don't really know why but it is really hard to say something is or is not purple death because there is such a big change under different conditions. The polyps in question are not colored up for what ever reason so IDing them is not easy I would move them to a tank with a lot less light and give them a month or two to darken up.

they may darken up but the size diffence is still huge, how m uch size difference is there really? is it a lot between the two frags u have?

If you're talking to me I have about 10 frags and a 35+ mother colony and yes the size difference can be that big with PDs and NGs

Either way they can be very different in size depending on light and water conditions

We need to name a zoa albino midgets I would buy them just to tell people I keep albino midgets in my aquarium :hammer:
