What are your guys's least favorite smells you have smelled in the hobby?

I have a strong stomach, and skimmates don't smell bad at all to me (it just makes me happy the skimmer is doing the work), but DEAD SNAILS are the WORST.

It's not a particular snail either. I have smelled trochus, nassarius, vermetid snails. They all have that putrid funk that you cannot forget.

The worst is when your bio-pellet reactors output gets clogged and it it recirculates oxygen free water for a few days. You get the swamp/sewer smell of hydrogen sulfide gas and its nasty.

Leftover nori stuck inside the nori clip where the fishes cant get to it, smells pretty bad after 2-3 days too. I don’t dare feed that back to the sw fishes but will give them to my fw fishes and neocaridina shrimps though (no issue so far).

Dead snails reign supreme in this category. There is just no comparison.

I haven't got a dead snails yet as peaple write here, but a couple years ago i was trying to clean rapane shell after eating it, it was unsuccessful cause it was a small part deep inside. SOOOOOOO i can agree with people that said about dead snails... But skimmate and socks are cool)

Brown jelly, dead snail, and my skimate after I do yellow sno or pns bacteria. It takes the usual "fart juice" (as my partner calls it) and elevates it to the point that even my dogs run outside retching.

Weird something so small can smell so bad.

Cleaned out my algae scrubber and left it garbage can in kitchen. Whole house was rancid. Ole lady almost threw me out the house

The worst smell I’ve encountered thus far is after I tore down my tank and left some sand in a sealed bucket for a day or two. Perhaps one of the worst smells I’ve ever encountered period.

Here's something strangely specific.
I soak my filter socks in bleach water after I've rinsed out any large debris and scrubbed it a bit by hand under hot water.
I will reuse this bleach water twice, socks are subsequently cleaned and rinsed thoroughly.
The dead/decaying algae in the bleach water smells exactly like halitosis.
