I like the idea of getting old mag floats and attaching SPS to those. That way u can move them and clean the back. Then move them back.

I had a small colony of Tubs Pink Jade that I couldn't figure out what to do with until this thread got me thinking.

I've also been growing Sunset Montipora on my overflow for a while now.

I have Monti encrusted on my back wall and Im regreted because now it cast shadows over other corals.

My first impression was NO! But the more I scroll through the thread and look at the frags on my racks currently the more I'm leaning towards I must do this. Especially with my Idaho Grape Monti cap and a couple tabling sticks. I must investigate this further.

You really need to be carefull with what you choose to mount on a back wall in terms of SPS. IME, many will simply encrust forever and not shoot out any branches. I think this looks ugly. I've experienced this with monti digi, acro prostrata, and monti setosa. You have to choose things that mostly branch and display minimal encrusting. I've had success with stylo and birdsnest. Acro Carduus (red dragon, hurlock, etc.) or Hawkins works as well. I think the other option might be to use larger colonies that are already shooting out branches, but you still run the risk of a lot of ugly flat encrusting.

I need help with this. I've been trying to get my gsp to grow on back wall and won't grow and/or stay on. But mostly won't grow. It's weird. Is it better to get something that encrusts for back wall?

waterchange

When your acro or monti is glued to back wall does this afect the waterchange?? Can you still do waterchange wont the coral die??

Not intentionally, but I have some on the back, front, and overflows of my 210. I have a bright orange monti cap that has built a significant "bridge" to the front glass I probably should have prevented, I may leave it for a while then frag the whole thing up at some point... There is another unknown toward the bottom, I popped most of it off a few months ago, but it's twice the size of a silver dollar again... assorted on the back,from hairy shrooms, to a purple monti cap, and a couple others.

No it will be fine out of the water for a while. Most corals are. I wouldn't get carried away and leave them dry out, but I wouldn't worry too much (unless you're baking them under lights) for 10 to 15 minutes or so.
