:p

If I were speaking at an Aquarium Trade Show would you be interested in hearing me speak? I have an opportunity that I am mulling over.

If so what would be an interesting topic?

Saying no will NOT hurt my feelings. Matter of fact I will start an anonymous poll!

Thanks.

I would love to hear a topic on building your reefing community, whether it's a virtual community or your local reefing buddies :)

I like the idea of a presentation on how to best use Reef2Reef and how current/soon to be members can best populate it with helpful information. We all benefit from an informative, easy to use web resource.

BTW, are you good at telling jokes to set up introduction, ha ha?

Yes - how a community like R2R allows a stronger connection and communication between reefers, vendors and is beneficial to all sides - from learning and refining parameters such as @Randy Holmes-Farley to how products perform and how they can be improved.

I think an interesting topic for you to cover would be "building reefing communities" or the like. Online social networking and community building is already key to business success, and will only become more-so in the years ahead. It's obvious that businesses need to understand these, so they would benefit from your experience, but consumers will also need to know where to turn to for information as the things they are used to become less available (for example; LFS replaced by online retailers).

If the topic is on something like making the best reef site ever then yes if it’s on a topic u know nothin about then not really

Yea but would that actually be interesting? Thanks BTW! LOL!

I've been speaking most of my life in front of crowds. LOL!

I voted NO Btw! HA!

Something like: "The making of Reef2Reef.com" would be interesting. Relay the history and pitfalls that you've encountered. What made you decide to establish a forum in the first place? Was there ever a time when you wanted to close up shop? Changes that you've seen in the hobby (for better or worse) since you've started. Ways that you would like to see the forum and community move forward would be great.

I'd watch that presentation...

I think a talk on the development of reef2reef site would be interesting as well. You could talk about the challenges and inner workings of it and other things most people have no idea goes on behind the scenes. There are so many areas you could delve into, such as why has reef2reef been successful versus other online reef forums? How has the business model evolved, the pros / cons of various things you've implemented, biggest challenges, successes, and failures, most enjoyable parts, memorable stories, and so on. I think it could be great. If you gave away some coral frags as door prizes, I bet you could really up the attendance! I'd come listen or at least watch it on YouTube later

As long as there are pretty pictures in the Powerpoint. lol

I have to admit I lose interest when presentations get too scientific, but I know many people love that. If a presentation has a chart presenting something about micromoles or nanomoles, it better have pretty pictures between the charts for me. Otherwise I will start to daydream. Wait... what was the question again? haha

Seriously though, I would love to hear you talk about R2R and why you think it works so well.

Wow thanks for the input!

Yes - maybe on how to develop an open a positive community for collaboration and support. A little bit about the history and development of R2R would be nice but not too techy - I watched a few of the MACNA videos on YouTube and while they contain a lot (A LOT) of information almost all had a common problem: how does this help me improve my aquarium/community/self? SO information/history just for the sake of it isn't useful, need to know how to take that information moving forward.

Do a talk on your recent experience with rocks. I'm biased being someone who really wants to see the hobby return to the use of live rock but I think your ongoing struggles with your tank and recent introduction of real ocean live rock deserves some discussion. You have the resources and the connections to get some interesting input on the topic that you could include. I don't deny that R2R is a great hobby forum, but its development and stuff is not something I'm interesting in learning more about to be honest.

I don't know that you would be the main draw at a convention, but I'd certainly make the time to stop by at a convention I was already at. I chatted with you at RAPNY a couple years ago and you seem like an eloquent speaker. I don't know, but I suspect that you and the Mrs could put on a good presentation.

Speaking of which, I've got to start keeping my eyes out for RAP tickets.

for me, it would be wonderful to hear the story of reef2reef.com
and the idea's the led to this great website and wonderful forums.
and what happens in the background of running such website and keeping it growing and people interested in joining
specially in the age of tablets and smart phones.

that's a topic I'd listen to you blabbering about :D

It's funny, I was just thinking about posting a discussion thread on a similar topic this weekend. I was reading posts and sort of saddened by how frequent we see "What is this and how do I murder it" type posts. Invariably it's something like a bristle worm or limpet or something actually helpful and interesting.

I think the advent of dry rock has helped develop this idea that everything in the tank should be deliberately added (which granted, has some merit). But thinking back to my own tanks, some of my own "child-like wonder" moments came from the random biodiversity that came from the live rock. Walking past the tank at night and seeing a swarm of mysis shrimp or peeking under a rock and watching the micro bristle worms feed. I wonder how many modern reefers will ever find a black elephant limpet in their tanks at all...

Anyway, I would listen to that talk too... :)

Honestly, I think a piece on the growth and change in the reefing community would be interesting. Especially from the point of heading the top reefing forum on the web. Also, make sure you take some swag....it makes everything more interesting.
