Would you listen to me talk?

Without question, there is a draw for folks to come and listen to you because of who you are. However, I think the real draw is the topic you'll discuss. I tried to look up to see if you've expressed an expertise by looking up articles....and didn't see any (but that could be my limited computer knowledge in doing searches)

This request to speak also reminded me of a Big Bang episode in which one of the characters was going to throw out a first pitch at a baseball game, and the advice given was that nothing good can come from it. A good pitch will be immediately forgotten, but a bad pitch will be remembered forever.

I also feel that the recommendation of you talking about starting R2R would be better received at a computer forum show, and not at a fish forum show. Some will come to hear you at a fish show, but bottom line, it's a talk about forum building, and I can't see a bunch of fish geeks truly wanting to know.

Would I like to hear you talk....YES.....but for me, it boils down to the topic being discussed......and the topic should be something you feel you're an "expert" at.

I think a "Best of Reef2Reef" would be interesting.

Best jokes you've seen, best pictures you've seen, a behind-the-scenes look at R2R and what it takes to run it, people you've helped along the way...or vice versa. You have plenty of material to choose from. Keep it light, informative, and entertaining...and you'll be fine.

I agree with some of the comments above. I want to hear the story of R2R. How it started, what it takes to run it or a successful forum in general, etc.
Forums these days are as much a part of the hobby as any other part of it. I would HATE to go back to the days of being in this hobby without the interwebs. lol

R2R has helped me immensely especially when it comes to chemistry related things. Moreover, its a friendly place and site is super fast...I know this was all done via careful planning and listening to its users. Having the Admin home and initiating conversation is what makes this place feel like home.. Do it!

I think this sums up pretty much what I would have replied so I quoted instead of repeating.
For my part, I listen to MACNA vids because they are interesting to me. In other words, I wouldn't be inclined to listen to something just because the person spoke at MACNA.

I think you should just be yourself and speak about whatever you're truly interested in and personally like to talk about. If you don't feel particularly enthusiastic about anything at the moment, then just wait until you do. I suggest you do it because you want to do it and don't mind what other people will think. If you truly believe in what you are saying and that know that there is some need for it to be put out to the reefing community, I'm sure many other people will feel the same, regardless of whatever topic you choose. Follow your own heart, (and not your mind) would be my advice

I think that your perspective on the reefing community and how it has evolved ( and how you have evolved ) from earlier days at RC up to now.
How R2R was formed and the people involved.
General thoughts on what we thought 12+ years ago or more, compared to what is considered to be given now.
As long as the forum in which the talk was held was small enough to meet you and talk with you as well, would be my preference. But I would attend no matter what the circumstances.

I would absolutely come here you talk but part of the deciding factor would be where the talk was being given in relation to where I live, where I might travel for work, etc. the location is off of the deciding factor whether I can attend these types of events

It would be interesting to hear about the formation and daily activities that go into Reef2Reef. Few people know what it takes to start and run a community based forum. That would be a good MACNA topic!

Rev ... I would be more than delighted to sit thru' the whole session (although I'm nowhere any closer to you ... lol) just to hear What, How, Why this R2R came about. This reef site & the "owner" is super friendly & easy to get along with plus he maintains sensibility and humor as well!

I've notice a lot of high end applications put into this site and "behind the scene" folks that maintain and control this site is simply amazing.

Enuff said ... it's all about the Origin of R2R!!!

I would listen...ill reserve judgment on how good you are till i hear ya.

I do public speaking and ill give you some advice.

The trick is to be entertaining and informative at the same time.

It requires a lot of practice and a steep leaning curve. It isn't easy.

Ive been doing it 7 years and still consider myself terrible.

Some people are just naturals though.

I copy a combination of George Clooney from "up in the air" but switch to the cadence of the nerdy guy from criminal minds when things get technical
