I call my water company every year asking if they use chloramines and if not if they have plans to with in the next year. Answers I get each year is No and not at this time.
I would assume they would send some kind if notification out if they did decide to switch and I also assume I will never see that notification and won't ever know unless I ask again the next year.
It's easy to test for with a free and total chlorine kit. If there's a different value between the two it's likely because of chloramines. I also assume I won't be doing this test regularly or at all. But it is a viable option to do and done periodically.
Water quality just can change so quickly and with out warning I'd rather do what I can system setup and maintenance wise and to minimize worrying about it. Water quality shifts may not happen a lot (some places more then others) but that's what insurance is all about and that's how I look at my RODI system.
Chloramines are really the least of my worries. If I remember right if you use Spectrapure membranes they can handle a lot of chloramines with out major damage to them unlike chlorine. You'll just see your DI get exhausted quickly. Other membranes about the same possibly.
