I purchased a small pulsing Xenia frag about a month and a half ago. It has grown and doubled in size. One grew onto a piece of rock and detached from the Rest. The rest is attached to a small plastic grid that I got it on.

The piece that attached to the rock is doing well but the rest on the grid doesn't look so good.

Don't want it to die because that's my favorite piece in the tank

Move it or try a water change if you have not yet, but I would move it the frag disk first.

I did move it two days ago and again yesterday and it hasn't changed. It was originally purple but has turned blue now

I also do a 25% water change bi weekly. Just did it last Thursday.

Water test is showing

Ph-8
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-0

Salinity stays around 1.025-1.026

Also my Kenya tree hasn't opened today? My zoas are partial Xenia are all open and fine.

Xenia is a strange coral, if you have been moving it around it's probably not going to expand to it's full potential for a couple days. Turning blue means that the coral is just not fully inflated. Xenia is either going to thrive or die there seems to be no middle ground. One piece is going excellent in your tank and if all things stay the same it will spread, probably more then you wish.

How are you measuring salinity?

I'm hoping it spreads. I'd be just fine with it covering most of my rock. I love the color and how it moves.

I'm using a refractometer to test salinity.

I recently pluggged my powerhead into a timer that goes on and off in 15 min segments. Could that be a contributing factor? I mean it's not right in the flow but idk what else would be causing it. I don't seem to have lost any Xenia or Kenya it just won't open up.

Saltyfilmfolks where ya at??
Doing dishes:D
Xenia love dirty water. Jus sayin;) Say no to zero.

Honestly it seems to me that zoas will feed on light and particulates and spot feeding and do ok in lower nutrient tanks, xenia seem to absorb it from the wc more.
Google Xenia fuge, if you dare.

Test show 0 however my tank is a dirty tank! There's cyano everywhere and some brown hair algea on the glass and false back!

So is it dying?

ticks me off because of how much people talk about it taking over there tank and they would give some away just to get rid of it.

Well I paid $26 for a Xenia frag with about 4 stems (base) on it.

Ridiculous I know but my lfs is in a wealthy area and can ask for prices like that.

I gave in and paid it because I wanted some so bad.

Rest of my zoas and Kenya tree and gsp were all $5 frags. My gsp died I guess after being nipped at by my old velvet neon damsel. Needless to say I took him back

Just keep parameters in check and give it time. I've seen mine look like yours in the pic after I try and scrape them. Sure enough they recover stronger than ever. Mine like a lot of flow

I've seen pictures of Xenia dying and it doesn't look to be dying but it isn't as healthy as what it was last week.

thats soo weird. how much light do you have in the tank?

boy do i feel bad. i throw mine away.

I do feel like xenia growth is better when I neglect the tank. Anything bothering it?
yea it does tell you a little bit about a tank when folks say its taking over. I have two types in my tank. Mostly have to keep an eye when it is ready to drop babies. Ive been playing with slowly lowering and raising the nutrients all year. pretty interesting watching the corals respond.

Idk what would be bothering it. Snails? Hermets? I haven't seen any on it.

Could it just not be happy on the plastic grid anymore? How could I detach it from the grid and connect it to a rock?
