Yall told me it was going to happen

GFO in a Phosban reactor, pull the pieces of rock out and scrub off with a grout brush....raise lights 2" off water and run lights for 10 hrs with only 4 hours of what your current max intensity is at. It will be gone in a week.

This is a good one too....leads off with a phosphate sponge in the reactor for 36 hrs and then switches to GFO after to maintain.

Sounds like a good plan but where would i put this its a biocube? Don't they usealy go in a sump?

They have HOB reactors but it starts to get unsightly with all that in the tank. you aren't using any filter are you? If so opt for a GFO reactor and skimmer and ditch the filter...can mix the GFO and carbon together in the reactor....water just won't be as polished. Or you could have the filter on their for water polishing and have rock stack up the back wall to hide most of the equipment behind the rock. Just giving options

dang you said bio cube I am sorry...kiddo had my attention. These makes it a little more tricky. I would play with it but I bet you could find a way to work one in...might partner with people on here that have those and see how they do it...sorry for not hearing that part.

I mighy beable to rig it up as a hang on the back should beable to put the pump with the return pump and the return from the reactor ontop of the floss to catch any dust or particulets. My tanks in a corner so i can hide alot of it or mount it in the stand and have the hoses runing to and fro. Any suggestions for gfo, brands? And i assume do a blackout period to kill the algea so it releases the phos?

RowaPhos is good...one if not the original I think....PhosBan....all good. You can buy a reactor and pump for 50-60 bucks.

The blackout is 2 pronged approach to starving out the algae....reactor takes the food source away and the blackout takes the light source away.

I watched the videos I posted and did that and my phosphates show 0 all the time now and not an ounce of algae is in the tank. I do dose vodka but that is my choice....many do not.

Looks like just normal new tank cycling to me. The color and texture even look as though it's beginning to die. Use the end of your syphon and suck out whatever is loose when you do water changes and give it time. I always keep Phosguard and a high quality carbon in a bag that I throw in my hang on filter. ( A hang on filter is all that I run on my 30 gal)

Gotta ask....why do I keep seeing questions about rock age?? My rock is pushing 20 years old and I'd never dream of replacing it. Also, why all the soaking rocks in peroxide? Part of the allure to "live rock" is all of the diversity of life that comes in on it. Okay......I'll admit that I didn't care for the 3 Mantis shrimp that came with my Indo rock, but hunting for them was interesting. If wanting sterile "rock work" why not just make it and stay away from live rock? Just curious??

I used rock i already had and i just know my luck woth algea i jad craaazy amounts but i might just be over reacting. Eeehh it does also help with automation. I like the famcy gadgets i nevrr had any on the tank last time and im enjoying all the tinkering.

As far as soaking the rock, I thought he had a bad outbreak and needed extreme measures. Obviously not the case. :)

I would go with many of the other options. I do not use gfo anymore, but with a biocube you are limited on what you can use, so it is a good option. Love the canister idea for cleaning time to time. Especially when you do a blow out of rock and sand. I use the old hose and filter sock. It is a pain. I think I will do it with a canister after I go get one.

Some of my rock is over 13yrs too. Would not replace it. Too much life. Although similar issue when bought it. I had a deadly serpent star, no mantis.

I just jump and orderd a reactor, yea yea gimme hate i bought a BRS reactor. With the mur-lock fitting being small and useing elbows i can make it very clean looking and it just seemed simple. From what ive read run where the gfo barely moves. I might put a fine screen on top of the gfo and toss a little bit of carbon in it. Still waiting to get some more cuc, thinking a cerrith or 2, redleg hermits, and a cleaner shrip or maybe just a peppermint?

So after 4 days blackout with new gfo reactor everything is still alive.... even the algea still. Its doesnt look like it dwindled much but some of it is bleached i even changed/ uped gfo dose yesterday just incase. Any ideas? Yes i need somthing that eats it but havent been to the store sadly. Should i just scrubb and suck it out?
Strangely i saw my clown eating the hair quite prolificly maybe hes just starveing poor babby.
