hello,

I have a yellow tang and it has ben a while it has started to loose weight and I try to feed him nori, pellets he takes all. I feed one time a day and he grazes on the heir algae on the back of the display tank. The attached photo shows how thin it is and how can I get him to its usual condition if Im not too late.

Feed more; I feed LRS Herbivore and Reef frenzy twice a day (10am and 9pm) and offer algae sheets between the two feedings (4-5pm) most days.

Agreed fees more than once a day and always provide fresh algaes for grazing.

I will start feeding more than once a day. And there is algae in the tank on the back wall yellow tang grazes the algae most of the time. So hopefully by starting to feed twice a day he will get in shape again. One more thing he eats alot his belly is always round shaped.

While having algae on the back wall is great for him to naturally pick at he will still need fresh algae of different varieties to stay healthy....was he ever qt and treated for internal parasites?

?

I have nori I put it in tank once every two to three days.

He eats alot from what I see he has his belly rounded and poops normal.

I havent quarantined him but I read somewhere on google and they were talking about internal parasite. Thats why I got worried and posted here.

If it is going to be treated for internal parasite what shall I do for the treatment?

Thanks

He has internal parasites, you should see stringy white poop coming out of him.

Other than additional feedings you may try adding another fish to provoke feeding. When I added my hippo tang my yellow tang, who was skittish now rushes to eat knowing if he doesn't he won't get any.

There are 4 other fish other than him in the tank. There was stringy white poop today and I thought it was chaeto algae as some run into tank and they ate it. I have two clowns, a sailfin and a rabbit fish but I see from time to time the sailfin chases both the tang and the rabbit fish. But there is no much fight between them.

If it is internal parasite what shall i do? What should I get for treatment.

Im living in a place where getting treatments is not possible and yes they leave the poor fish die.
But luckily I will be travelling to France and from there to Turkey so hopefully I will find some treatment :(

I'm sorry to hear this. :(

If you can, try stocking up on these meds (or similar) when you travel abroad: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/medications-to-keep-on-hand.213574/#post-2445601

The complete list (to give you more options) is here: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/medications-to-keep-on-hand.213574/

Also, this website contains A TON of information on many different medications (including dosages for generics): http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Medication.html

Here is a recent photo I just took showing a bit closer

He looks very malnourished. Is he still eating? Can you get praziquantel, metronidazole or even fenbendazole where you are? If you can get the generic powders of any of those medications, I can provide dosing instructions.

He is eating, i have started to feed different kinds of food, flakes pellets and nori sheets. He eats from all. There is also little hair algae on the wave maker and back wall of the tank he grazes on them as well. There is a redblood fireshrimp in the tank he is always by shrimp where he lays for the shrimp so that it can clean him up.

He poops but lately I have noticed the poop contains a white string along with it. And I feel he is struglling in getting the poop out as he asks for help from the shrimp to pull it out most of the time.

the poop contains a white string along with it.

^^ This indicates he has internal parasites in his intestines. When other fish eat the white stringy poop, they too will become infected as the poop often carries the eggs.

Ohhhhh, So I have to get the whole tank a treatment in this case. So I hope until I get back from my trip nothing bad happens, because I will be bringing the meds with me from Europe. Is Seachem Metroplex reef safe? if not what shall I get as I have to treat the display tank because I have noticed other fish at least taste the poop. If it gets into their mouth they should be infected as well.
