I'm guessing the protocal for switching copper brands is a full water change? Or, if both brands are chelated can i just start using it and trust the test kit?

It's best to do some large water changes before switching.

If you're moving from a 40z. to a 160z. bottle of the same product, you ought to be OK - but when you do get around to switching product and changing water, remember to add copper to your water _before_ you add the water to your tank, so that copper levels for the fish don't drop.

I've got the copper at, what i believe to be a therapeutic level. Here's the API copper image. It's night here now so I used the flash to try to capture the color.

How do the fish look? Those API kits are so hard to read, but I think it needs to come up a tad more. Wait for confirmation though.

Have you considered a fw dip on all the fish to buy you some time? In the link provided by @Maritimer, post #2, details use of freshwater dip + acriflavine bath to help increase survival rates for velvet. I'd suggest giving it a try to get them some relief while the copper starts to work it's magic...

I was looking for my wasp fish in the QT. I assumed he was by the large foam filter hiding. When I moved the sand pit I setup for the Diamond Goby, his body floated up. Very disintegrated. Velvet?

Ugh. I should have checked on him yesterday. I was trying not to disturb them too much. Totally failed this little guy.

I'm so sorry for your loss...you didn't fail him, it's a learning process each time you deal with something like this

Velvet can kill very quickly, which is why I suggested the above. If you don't have acriflavine on hand, the freshwater dip alone might still help. With velvet, there is usually significant gill damage which results in excess mucous build-up. The dip helps to flush that mucous out, and dislodge some (but not all) of the parasites, helping the fish to breathe. If you have an extra airline you can add to your QT, that might help as well.

I just finished giving all the fish a freshwater 5 minute bath.


The tangs got the bath first.

Afterwards, the smaller fish are not showing physical signs, but the Kole Tang looks like a lot of things let go but took pieces. [emoji21]

I have Furan 2 in the QT now as well. I pushed the copper up again. I hope it's at good levels. I'll let them rest for now.

Thank you. Those are all good things to remember. For filtration I have a Fluval 406 Cannister, as well as a large Hikari sponge filter. The sponge is being pushed by a large air pump. There's a lot of air being pumped into the tank. I'm putting in 5 mls of One-and-Only each morning to help keep the bacteria.

In any case, I'll get ahold of Rally to do another bath in 48 hours. And this time move to a 60 minute Acriflavine bath.

This is all my fault. Stupid judgement that I didn't QT the wasp. I had this idea that coming from divers den, I could be lazy about setting up a small QT. A small 5 gallon Aqueon is all I needed for him, and I have one. Just all around stupid on my part.

I lost my Royal Gramma. I removed her from the QT.

I noticed her fins seem shredded. I don't recall this earlier. I'm wondering if this is from the parasite, or fighting. I don't see anyone fight during the day. And I don't believe her fins were like this before going into the QT.

Once a fish is weakened or dead it is very common for other fish to pick at them.

I luckily have the QT in my home office. So I'm able to monitor things between stretches of work.

I'd say that looks real close! But, I have a very hard time reading them. To me the sample always looks more yellow than what is on the card.

This weekend I really need to put together a good post on my recommendations for using Coppersafe. The API test kit is just so hard for many of us to use.

Hey Isaac. Sorry to see all of the troubles you've been having. I really hope the copper treatment works. The reading above looks close to 2.0 ppm. Those tests are difficult to interpret at times.
