This morning I noticed my yellow tang didn't eat when I fed the tank. He also isn't swimming very much and has somewhat fast breathing. I'm not sure what it is because he has no visible signs of disease. The only thing that has changed in my tank lately is I was trying to start a refugium but it didn't work out so I put the dragons breath algae in the actual tank because I thought it was pretty and the yellow tang and foxface ate it all. All of my other fish are acting seemingly normal and they are all eating and being as active as usual. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the issue?

Thanks in advance. I posted some pics from just now maybe I missed something.

How long have you had em? Soak some food in garlic and see if the tang eats.
I've had him for over a year. I've never had any issues with him eating. I wouldn't be so nervous about losing him since hes only not ate for one day but I just lost a trigger yesterday in quarantine and now I'm paranoid. The trigger and tang were never in the same water or anything but I just don't want to lose the tang. I will try that though thank you.

It could be the lighting but in a couple of the pics it looks like there could be signs of bacterial infections in the tang and the foxface, it can be hard to tell on yellow fish sometimes. Did you QT the algae and do you also qt your inverts and corals? Are you also running a uv sterilizer?

I threw some frozen food in and he ate hes just not eating any pellets or flakes. Yes, I do qt everything. I haven't added anything new to the tank in a few months though. No new inverts, corals, or fish. The foxface always has this one white air bubble on his body it's been there since we have had him which is approximately 8 months. My qt is super basic a heater filter and sponge filter. But I haven't added anything to the main tank in a few months. All of the other fish are fine which I know doesnt necessarily mean nothing is wrong. The tang will eat frozen just not anything else but hes still not acting normal. He keeps hiding and then hovering over the sand like hes grazing but hes not picking anything up. It's like hes too lazy to swim which is odd for him because hes an extremely active fish. I do not currently have a UV sterilizer and also was not aware you were supposed to QT algae. It was in my sump for a couple weeks and then I had to steal the light to QT the trigger so i put the algae in the display. How do you QT algae? Are there specific medications you would dose?

Thanks for your response!

Anything wet should be run through a qt if you don't want anything getting in, with algae it's mostly just letting parasites starve out before introducing it to an environment with fish, here's some more info on it https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/thread-links-to-all-things-quarantine-fish-inverts.602917/
Can you get a few pics under white light?
Thank you. Yes I will tomorrow. The lights have started to go down so he is already in hiding but I will get some tomorrow. Hes still behaving strange. He ate some veggie pellets this morning but when I did the night feeding he came like he was going to eat and just let the food fall on him. I'm probably going to try and get him out tomorrow. I'd rather be proactive because I can tell something is wrong I just don't know where to start.

I'm not sure that I do see anything obvious, @HotRocks @4FordFamily do you guys have any thoughts on this?
Thank you, I'm not seeing anything either but I find it odd that he begins acting reclusive and lazy so to speak not even a week after eating all of that macro algae I did not QT. My foxface ate it too and he is fine at the moment. I hate to stress him out by attempting to catch him and QT him if nothing really is wrong and kam just being paranoid. But his eating habits and activity has definitely changed drastically.

Hopefully everything goes well with him, even though it doesn't sound like he's eating like he normally does it's a good sign that he is still eating something

One thing I forgot to ask, have you seen any white stringy poop?
This is a good question.

Is there a light “dusting” on the fish? It’s hard to tell from my phone.

I was wrong. I can see this light dusting almost all around his body. It's almost glowy.

That's not a good sign, read this and see if the symptoms line up
If you're dealing with velvet you will need to start treatment asap, all of your fish will need to be treated
