We all have moments that we just do a head-desk and "Do'h!" What was your idiotic moment?

I'll start:

I was doing a WC yesterday. Pulled water out of my sump. then I siphoned clean water into the sump with a pump from my brute. I went up to the max level line, then turned the return pump on and turned off the WC pump. Water level dropped as it should.. then continued to drop past the minimum line. So I turned on the WC pump and let it fill up past the minimum line. Turned off the WC pump, water line dropped again. I did this several times and began to panic "Why is this taking so much water?! Do I have a leak?!" So I inspected everything, adjusted all valves.. same result and nothing was wrong. Water kept going down in the sump.

Then I realized about 20 minutes later.. I left the WC hose in the sump. It was back siphoning back into the brute can when I turned off the WC pump. *facepalm*

Do'h!

Grabbed my Acropower aminos (white bottle yellow letters with cute pinky decor) and put in 10 mil. As I dumped it in the DT the smell hit my nose.
I put in 10 mil of (white bottle yellow letters with cute pinky decor) REVIVE CORAL DIP!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Forgetting to start timer when making R.O. water AGAIN! Cleanest garage floor for miles.

I took a lesson from a friend and added a float valve to mine too.

@saltyfilmfolks - for similar bottles, use colored masking tapes around the bottles and label it? I did this too. Hope nothing was harmed in your tank!

Head slap moment. I ALWAYS leave the dips in the Garage.
and no nothing happened. The advantage of using fairly benign dips.

I just recently cleaned my sump, all pumps, skimmer, and media reactor thoroughly with tap water while doing a large water change. I also replaced/increased my return plumbing diameter and changed 3 filter socks the same day. Woke up the next morning to a bacteria bloom that has made my tank look awful for the past 5 days and counting. I wish that I could say that this is the first time I have done this due to too much cleaning at once, but it isn't. Obviously, I learned nothing the first time I made this mistake.

I've also been a victim to the overflowing RO jugs and mixing container. After pulling up the carpet and padding to dry out TWICE, I have finally learned my lesson about this.
Now I need to learn to quit upsetting my bacteria balance.

Freaking out over a possible PO4 problem (glass was clouding over in 24 hours) when a good friend said "Dude, Dose mag" face palm!
......oh and my freak out included spending $200 on a biopellet reactor and media.

My husband and I have definitely overflowed the RO water container more than a couple of times! Sometimes we even set the timer and then go to bed, so we can't hear it when it goes off. It's the thought that counts.

Another thing that I always regret immediately is plugging a power head in while I have the spout facing towards the top of the water. Instant shower. Seriously, WHO does that? LOL

Cleaning the glass of excess algae buildup, then hearing the dreaded drops of water coming from SOMEWHERE....did I spring a leak, what's overflowing.....Oh crap, the skimmer went CRAZY with all the extra nutrients and overflowed..../facepalm

HOB skimmer, no sump, lesson learned (turn down the skimmer when cleaning the DT)
