Your LFS location

I did. I was on their email list. They had sent out a couple of "flash" sales for everything in the store at 50% off. I began to wonder if they were closing the store side of the business and then I got the email about a week later that they were going to be wholesale only. Personally I wasn't impressed with their store, though I only went once that they were actually open. I had gone a couple of other times and no one was there. They did have nice fish at good prices at the local frag swaps. There is also School of Fish here and they serve the ultra rare fish crowd well.
I heard after last baby they were closed a lot at last minute and then their inventory started to become reduced.

NY is now Sound Aquatics. he is going to do drop shipping for several stores
Yeah been there, not impressed… not sure if Juan still owns the place or is just the ‘lease lord’ (has the lease but doesn’t own the land).

I go to Summit City Corals in Ft Wayne, it's about 5mi from my house. Great place! I drive past another lfs to get there, probably only 1.5mi.

I'm very fortunate considering all these posts. I don't think I could do much over an hour round trip myself. That is dedication!

One of the highest impacts is online shopping with overnight shipping.
I absolutely would buy everything I need and pay a small markup if I could walk in the store and buy my reef stuff in person. Big problem in my particular city is that reefing isn’t really that big of a deal to a lot of people. However our Petco literally sells out of tanks during the dollar per gallon sales for freshwater builds. Tons of interest in aquariums just not saltwater. Our petco saltwater section is plum embarrassing. But their planted section and freshwater section is impressive.

How far is everyone traveling to their LFS?
How far are you willing to travel to an LFS?

I travel about 1 hour to LFS and have gone as Far as 2.5 hours.
Southern California, I’m in Riverside which is between San Diego, Los Angeles too many in 75mile radius.
I typically go to the ones 20 to 30 minutes away on weekdays. On weekends I visit the 1.5 to 2hr ones. They all have different Corals… all worth the drive

Got a bunch within an hour of me…
Reeflections 35-45 min (haven’t been)
Bioreef 20-30 min
Orange park aquatics30-40 min
Ocean reef 30-45 min (been once, they may be closed)
Floating sea aquatics 20-25 min

floating sea is the one I go to the most and I’m sure there are some more lfs around I don’t know about. Got a petco 10 and 15 minutes away too

longest I’ve drove yet was 3 or 4 hours to Tampa to pick up an online order from salty bottom reef. Ended up being a good day with the gf. I’ll drive a ways away if it’s something special or cheaper than shipping. Definitely live on the wrong corner of florida for famous fish stores though :face-with-tears-of-joy:

There’s the essentials and fish within 10 minutes
Frags within 30
Favorite LFS is about 45 minutes, my limit

I purchase online more lately than I used to. Should visit the stores soon. I could use another fish or 2.

I'm lucky to have 3 LFS very close to me. Max 20-30 min drive during high traffic. One of those stores has been around a long time with some very knowledgeable owners and staff. Each of the 3 stores have different strengths ( coral / fish / products). I prefer to buy as much as possible locally - even if it's a bit more cost. Enjoyable going into local stores and viewing different products/wildlife in person vs Internet ordering.

Flight benefits working for the airlines, I'm at the next level The question is how far am I willing to fly

Being in DFW, I have many LFS to choose from. Unfortunately I'm stuck with the horrible traffic so I'm looking at 20 minutes for the closest store and up to 1.5 hours for the one that is 50 miles away, but is still in the metroplex. Of course most of the good ones are over in Ft. Worth area and that is a hike, especially since the interstate that gets you there has been under construction for the 20 years I've lived here.

Before I moved to DFW I lived in Louisiana and I would drive to Dallas once every year or 2 to hit as many petstores as I could on a Saturday. Of course that was in the 90's and traffic on the interstate wasn't that bad. Now it is bumper to bumper traffic between Dallas and Louisiana.

Which Fort Worth stores do you like? Fish paradise is my favorite.
