That tank looks great IMO I think you’re comparing yours too much to others. It’s clean and new give it some time. Feed more.

Im actually messing with the gate valve now. I turned off the uv pump and getting things adjusted right.
It sounds like you were bouncing on/off of full-siphon on that primary gate valve line which would cause the "randomness" in the overflow box. Letting the water level creep up as slowly as possible in the overflow will address that.

Im tired of of feeding :squinting-face-with-tongue:

I wanted to try an auto feeder but the food doesn’t sink fast enough and gets sucked up into the overflow. My fish eat everything. The cardinal is the only one who doesn’t like flakes.

But yes the tank looks great just know a storm is coming with these dinos. Thats all.

Im doing this now. Like its a fine balance.

It really isn't a bad looking tank. Just some small tweaks here and there and you'll have something you'll be proud of that won't stress you out. Feeding-wise, all i'd do every day is toss in two mysis cubes and put a little nori on a clip every other day. What's the setting on the jebao btw? I run mine as slow as possible.

Just my thought but I have been reefing many years. I find that new reefers are always trying to put too much equipment in their tank to fix or do something. When really all you need is water, light and flow. I would get back to the basics of just water and flow and go slow its a hobby not a race you win and lose in all hobbies.

Yeah i am a bells a whistles kinda guy but i want to simply a lot if thing on my tank like dosing. Is a uv a must no but mice to have. I think the way i have it in my tank is probably not the best way. I did take advice from this forum to do it that way so there is that.

Don’t trust everything you read on the internet! Lol unless it’s from one of the legends around here that holds more badges than a 4 star general! (Even then I nod and pretend to agree. Most of the time they are right) take what I say with a grain of salt. Especially if it’s about chemistry and advanced flow theory. Lol

Thing is I guess thats where it was. It was trickling over into the emergency then after a week or two it will just keep dropping. And idk why.

Hoping its the sicce pump.

I agree and i listen when they post.

Herbies were never really meant to be silent, I would try just going full open on the main and see how it works. I feel like that pump is small enough it shouldn’t be bad and then it will be consistent at least. If anything throttle back to pump, you only need 3-4x per hour turnover.

And can’t figure out my tank water level. It literally does what it wants.
its a matter of having your tank drain as fast, or just a tiny bit slower than it gets fed. ive been in that boat as well, and eventually found the sweet spot

My (and others) Herbie drains are silent.

If the main line is full open it will drop the level in the overflow, cause major water fall noise… and the pipe will not be full siphon; more noise.

Are you thinking of Durso? Those tend to gurgle regardless.

This hobby is for the individuals that have patience. If you expect something quick with a minor adjustment and get bad results wait it out a little then analyze , research, implement, and have patience

Your right. This hobby can be frustrating but if it makes you feel that way as mentioned above then it might not be for you. For e.g. there was many times I had Dino’s or nitrates at 60ppm, Bryopsis… you name it! but I never quit because I have a passion. Do you?

Double check that pump impeller. I used to run chaeto and had the same issue, It turned out my pump was full of chaeto strands.

Yup I thinking Durso you’re right!

I had an annoying Red Sea tank like that. Their valve was awful.

Can we see how it is plumbed and what sort of gate valve are you using?

It is a fixable issue. You are it supposed to have to constantly tweak it.

I don’t have much time or energy for my tank anymore so I traded my SPS and a bunch of LPS for nice softies and keep some cool fish. It’s super relaxing since I can just not do anything for months at a time if I don’t feel like it.
