My YWG keeps swimming in front of the power head. I'm worried he will get sucked in. He is small and thin. I'm worried he will die. He swam right in front of it. My power head has large openings. It is a reef wave 45. Is he in danger?

some fish just seem straight up suicidal.

I have a small clown that hangs out directly next to the large powerhead in my tank, almost a year in and he is fine though.

Maxspect makes a mesh guard for their gyre pumps, but you would have to search around to find out if they will fit the reefwave 45, but it looks like the reefwave comes with them?

It should come with it, but I'm still worried because he is small and thin

Some fish need to be fed more than others. The ywg likes to forage for food in the sand. If he's thin in body weight, try to give a 3rd round of food.

He can't even make it over there. Sometimes they like the water current, it helps them get stronger, so they will challenge it. Keep an eye on the fish.
ALL of them, in case velvet makes an appearance.

Edit: a healthy fish, even his size wont get sucked through the side of the powder head. Now if you find him glued to it one morning, he was ill.

None Of my fish have ich, at least i think, but how would you go about recognizing Velvet? Also he seemed to change in color, he turned into a light brown colored YWG. Is this normal? I saw him eating diatoms, could that have caused the color change?

No, diatoms shouldn't change his color.. I don't know what would cause it.
Velvet, shows up in the gills first. Fish will swim in strong current to get more oxygen.

Are there any visible signs of velvet other than swimming in current? Also how would you go about tresting it?
