zeovit and how I dose it

Hi, I am about to start a 180 g (220 total volume) SPS dominate Zeovit tank and I am looking for advice.

- What are the biggest mistakes newbies make and how to avoid them?
- What do you suggest to set up for success?
- One one think did you do that had the most success?

I have already purchased the Avast Marine vibe, 2L version. I plan on running Seachem Carbonmatix in a Bashsea reactor. I also purchased a Bashsea twisted Skimmer (because it looked so cool!). Sump is a Trigger CR44. Crystal Dynamics is the manufacturer and hoping it will ship sometime next week.

Current tank is a Waterbox 75.2 mixed. It is not a Zeovit tank. I have had moderate success. It looks great but I struggle with hair algae from time to time. I just started a Turf Scrubber on that system.

I attend SCMAS meetings pretty regularly so if you do as well, I would love to pick your brain on Zeovit.

If u read the zeo guide line they ask for live rock which we dont have right now. Thats the key ingredient for success. If u read my thread from the beginning i dose 50% for the first 3 to 6months then i observe to see how my tank react then increase or decrease. If u over dose then it promote algae growth

Your welcome any question just post. There is no zeovit forum on R2R so I make this thread to help reefer with zeovit questions.

I have been reading a lot and have downloaded the guides. I have also noticed that most have modified the process to varying degrees. A refugium there, a GFO reactor there, etc. I also know what it is like to start with dry rock... and it can be a pain.

I will start from the beginning of the thread and give a read. I love this hobby, as I am a data guy.

Thank you Hemmdog. What is the difference between the skimmers? I thought they ran the same. Also, does running carbon in reactor make it too aggressive?

Yeah the reactor makes the carbon too aggressive according to KZ. I’m not familiar with your skimmer but you said it looked unique, which leads me to think it may not be a Venturi type skimmer. Look into it.

@Hemmdog, happily the Bashsea is a Venturi skimmer . I also read you can use a reactor but reduce the amount of carbon by 50%.

Venturi skimmer is not needed as long as your skimmer works well. Zeovit systems need a good skimmer due to the carbon dosing. You can use a reactor with carbon just fine. You will want to use much less and possibly change it out more often. I like to use half the recommended and change it out monthly or you can change it twice for every one change of zeolites.

Zeovit reef tanks of the world

I also have algae shelter and matrix in the sump, I could remove both? The matrix is ok since its a place for bacteria to populate. As far as algae it will produce more pod and it doesn’t reduce phosphate As fast as gfo so no negative effects

I didn't realized that zeoBAK is supposed to be refrigerated. My bottle has been sitting on the kitchen counter for about 2 weeks since I opened it. Do you think its gone bad? Should I throw it out and order a new bottle?

It should be ok unless your house is very hot. They sit on the shelve waiting to be sold anyway.

I just read on another thread KZ recommends to store between 39.2 and 68 deg. That goes for Bio Mate and Coral Vitalizer as well.

Only zeobak i and coral vitalizer i keep in the frig. The rest room tenp darker place are fine

Does the time of day matter for dosing? I currently dose Acro glow, coral booster, and flatworm stop. Do they uptake more if I dose when lights are out and their feeders are out?

Also, does my carbon reactor affect these or just the core 3 elements?

I dose everything in the morning. Carbon only clean the water it does absorb organic waste and yellow compound in the water.

Zeovit promote their stuffs but u don't have to use their carbon brand. Any carbon is fine
