Does anyone have advise on a method of decreasing the number of Zoa! I have a colony of them beginning to spread like crazy!

Start fragging away!!!

But a rock that big inside the tank hmmmmm....

Without the zoa letting off some serious toxin to protect itself while you thrash at it and cut it and RIP it off the rock I am not sure how to eliminate part of that colony. Once injured or killed those little guys release some nasties. I was picking some aptasia off a frag one time and squished 1 polyp and my eyes immediately started to burn. It wasn't even directly in my face...just the essence of it burned. So I definitely wouldnt want a large colony to go radio active if you will.

I would suggest you remove just that rock and chop imwhat you dont want off under fresh ro salt water and then move the pieces to a fresh QT to let them sit and recover depending how bad they were cut. Lots of circulation ;)

How much are you trying to remove?

Looks like a shelf piece of rock you could bust up with hammer and chisel. Do it under water in a shallow tub. The juice can be nasty. Not deadly but super irritating. And they can squirt juice a good distance. The underside of my magnify glass takes a good shot now and then.

I guess I will rescape the center of the tank. Hate to frag up the 14 inch Red Planet but I think it’s the only solution.

Joes juice will do the job. Whenever I blast aiptasia with it, the surrounding zoas always die off as well.

If you microwave water in a mug and then take a syringe and suck some of the hot water up and squirt it in the zoas it will slowly kill the zoas. They will slowly die and shrink away. Not sure if that helps. I found this out by trying to kill a mejano nem that was growing in between a colony of zoas.

Do not attempt to kill them around you and your family unless you want to end up in the hospital. Paytoxin is no joke. Remove the rock take your losses.

Yeah.... green zoas grow like weeds. The red and blue ones grow slooooooooooooow

If you have Kalk around add that to a cup and start sloooooooowly adding water until its the right mixture to squirt out of a turkeybaster.

Kalk paste is like 50dKH Alkalinity and will chemically burn their tissue into nothingness.

Those are zoas. Palytoxin is from palys. Though I wouldn't squirt zoa juice in my write either but Palytoxin really is from palys, like these. Which are actually mis marked...

But to help with your problem... Just plant something else around them to stop them. Maybe a nice branching Hydnophora or some candy canes. Actually a nice clump of candy canes would look nice there. Like these...

Do not try to kill them in the tank. Do you know what palytoxin is? Skimjim thats not smart. Palytoxin is one of the most deadly in the world.

My goodness, stop fear mongering.

I have also made the same type of paste for aiptasia killing and it works great for zoa control if you aren't wanting to frag.

If I'm even in the same room with a zoa.... this what I do.

!NOT!......
Lol

ZOA... VIRTUALLY HARMLESS

This is coming from a guy that had palytoxin poisoning for 5 days from scrubbing green
P A L Y S ( not zoas but p.a.l.y.s.)

And from a guy that has fragged thousands of zoas over the 4yrs working at a coral chop shop

PALYS = potential danger, use common sense. WASH thy hands after handling. Dont touch your eye, wipe your mouth or pick your nose. Pick your friends nose? Potentially. Whatever you like but not your own

ZOAS = harmless unless you pull the rock and burn them with a torch and breath in.... or boil the rock in a pot and breath in.... or eat one possibly two. Idk...never tried
