Zoa problems in a biocube?

lol. The problem with this is that soooooooooooo many people don't believe that pods will eat your coral. They will eat their own kinds, anything meaty, and any left over. That's how they recheck their population once they grow too much and the tank cant support them. Well, I'm sure your wrasse going to be a happy camper.

Do u have any camel shrimp? I had the same problem. I couldn't keep zoas or palys. One day I saw the shrimp eating them.lol. That was my problem. Now I have my zoas and palys real happy and growing.

If I didn't see it with my own eyes I would have not believed it. PODs, now I know why some of my zoas (I thought) melted, need to get a 6 line asap. Great info...

Now what about these z / p's that we all know as melters; did they really melt on us or did it get eaten by these little devils, maybe the expensive collector zoas taste better than the cheap one. lol...

Sorry to just jump in but can anyone tell me how to post a new topic using iPhone app. I can not figure it out. Once again sorry for off subject post, I just need help

No, no shrimp in the biocube and no shrimp in the 55 either... My Valentini puffer would make short work of that... Lol.

And to start a new thread you go to the forum you want an at the top right corner there's a button that says start new topic when you click it

And you may be on to something there... The colony that we split was the type of zoas that grow on that branch-type skeletal sort of structure, which according to my lfs are Vietnamese zoas and are known to melt anyway. But that still doesn't explain all the frags I put in his tank (such as radioactive dragon eye- everyone has those) that melted as well. Or the palys that dominate my tank and melted in his

UPDATE: got the 6 line yesterday and it's amazing how the number of pods went from seeing them all over to now just a few here and there. His belly is full. Gonna try to add some extra zoas from my tank in about a week

Nice! Sadly I have to report that my 6line decided he no longer wanted to live and jumped out of my tank :/
Found him the next morning on the floor. He will be missed, and now it's time to get a new one.

Aww =\ I think this guy is gonna have a hard time jumping out of the biocube... But I've lost a few fairy wrasses in one of my other tanks

I think we need to start a thread asking if anyone is keeping zoa's successfully in a tank under 40g. I'm beginning to think that it has something to do with flow and how limited it is in a nano.

We have a 29G Coralife Biocube and we're doing well so far. It's been up since April and we've had success with Palys and Zoas so far (knock on wood).

We've even had a Gatorade colony close up for about 10 days (after placement) and reopen.

We do Phyto daily, have pods, Mysis for our Blood Red shrimp and I watch parameters closely.

SG 1.025
Ph 8.2
Calc 360 (low and dosing)
Mag 1170 (low and dosing)
dKH 10 (letting it drift back)
Nitrates 0

If anything I'm concerned about always testing zero on nitrates, but so far, so good!

I did let the tank cycle much longer than most according to LFS owner, so he's not surprised by 0 nitrates.

Also, I have two circulation pumps; Hydor 240 and 560 that alternate every 15 minutes. We thought that current strength changes in the ocean, let's do it in the tank.

I'd hate to say that there's enough history to declare success just yet, or that I've scientifically isolated flow as a success factor but so far, so good.

Oh, additionally, I run an lee's wooden air stone in the return sump nightly. I positioned it so the tank isn't flooded with bubbles but the sump is and exchanges a lot of air in that chamber.

I'll update as we progress.
