I have test everything. Ca, alk, mag, salinity, temp, and everything is where it should be.
Zoas are melting day by day, my candy canes as well.
I am dosing Iodine (lugo's solution 2%) daily, one drop per 25g of water.
I know dont dose what you can test for!!!
*My question is.... can overdosing Iodine melt corals?
I have been reading articles, but nothing specifically saying it might burn, or melt soft corals.
I am trying to find a store that sells a test kit now.
Yes I think I made a mistake on what I already knew it to not to do it.
Next question is:
*Can I run carbon to remove it? More than Im already using?
*Would a bigger water change help? I know the salt already have Iodine in it. Doing a water change will make it worse? Thanks

What I was using it

Too much of dosing anything can melt corals, you usually dip corals in an iodine solution, not treat your whole tank with it.

Carbon and large water changes (50% at least) over a couple of days. You need to lower the iodine content significantly.

Again I already stated I made a mistake! I want to know if will melt zoos. If it doesnt I have to start looking for something else. WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES EVEN WHEN WE THINK WE KNOW EVERYTHING.

Wow, you're the one asking for help!

Anyway, you killed your tank by dosing iodine daily.

Someone that is in this hobby for many years told me to do it when I could not keep some type of corals. He told me it could be a lack of Iodine.

It sucks, yes. But trust your knowledge! At this point do some water changes, run the carbon and for gods sake, don't dose anymore lol

Water changes won't really help as there's iodine in freshly mixed saltwater...
Unless he wants to drain and completely refill, which will only create more problems...
At this point, I believe most corals that are melting are beyond salvation as the iodine is already absorbed to toxic levels.

This is not good news

IODIDE! Not iodine...you're basically sterilizing your system plus iodine poisoning. There are other reasons for zoas to melt such as zoa spiders, etc. if you want to watch some good educational videos, check out Tidal Gardens' channel. Great photography and great education, endless...

Yes I know that it could be other things (pests)
I inspected the zoas that is melting on frag plugs, and no sign of any pest. My 34g is having the same issue. I have never placed any zoas there that was from my 120g. I was dosing that tank too

Got the testing kit, and Im over 0.09 ppm.
The ok number should be 0.06.
Now, If this is the problem or not, I will know soon if they stop melting. A least I know my Iodine is high!
