1” vs 1.25” return, HELP!

I plan on running 2 separate independent return pumps/lines.

I’m about to place my order for a new sump and have the option of drilling the sump for 2 - 1.25” bulkheads or 2 - 1” bulkheads.

The issue is, I cannot find 1.25” bulkheads or silicone tubing ANYWHERE.

I plan on running 5-8 x turnover rate on my 262 display.

Should I go with 1” or 1.25”?

Way to stiff to use in the return section and make tighter bends. I need silicone.

I guess if you looked for 1.25 and can't find it, the answer is pretty clear.
 
If you are talking returns 1 inch will be fine. I use 1.5 inch drains on my 240.

Personally i feel that for a return bigger is better, why not play it safe and go with the largest possible
 
I wouldn't use silicone tubing for long runs. It kinks very easily. I would use mostly rigid PVC with 45 fittings, and only use a 8-12" straight length of silicone coming right off the pump to isolate any vibration. As far as pipe sizing, at 8X turn over, you are only talking 2000 GPH total, or 1000 GPH per pump. 1" should be fine. But if you are really worried about it, just run 1.25 pipe and reduce it down right before the outlet to 1". That should cut down on most of your pipe friction and shouldn't restrict flow much at all. The numbers get even better when you drop down to the 5x turn over. I wouldn't get too hung up on maintaining a certain number. Just reduce restrictions and you should be fine.

I plan on using silicone just from the pump to the sump bulkhead.

What do you recommend to connect the silicone tubing to the bulkhead?
 
Sump bulkhead? Why do you want to attach the return to the sump itself? As far as how to connect to a bulkhead, use a barb fitting. It is really the only way I know of. I will say I have never used a single bulkhead fitting when connecting a return line. I have always just mounted the hard PVC to the stand using standoffs and it free floats over the back and into the tank. There are several benefits and only one downside. The down side is, you can see more of the return line when looking from above a rimless tank. However, when looking into the tank from the front, you see less of the the return than you do with drilling it through the back. Plus, when drilling through the back, you typically have it siphon down a lot further than we setup correctly over the back.
