cool ideas for my 10 gal. i was considering a ceph or a mantis. i dont have very many good ideas for it. i might read tonmo for info on cephs

I’ve always thought a pest tank would be cool in a small aquarium. Just letting the aiptasia grow (also food for your filefish), some gorilla crabs, and a bunch of stuff that are neat, but otherwise annoying in a normal reef.

if i fed him aptasia he would eat my coral probably, i am gonna just take it down and save it for a quarntine tank, most likely i wont need it but im gonna get a brand new 10 gal or a 20 high and build a stand for it because i liked making a stand for my 20 long so i wanna make one for my other tank. i might consider a sepia, i have basically all the time in the world to take care of it so i shouldbe okay with one or a breeding pair

im thinking very invert heavy with like a pixy hawk, a citron clown goby, the one fish lasse really likes a lot and a pygmy filefish
I would recommend against a filefish in less than 30 usually. Less of a swimming room thing, more of a high probability of turning on inverts and corals thing. Same for the hawk, I’d look at the geometric pygmies for a 10-20.
I’d look into the rarer shrimpgobies for an oddball.
I’d keep it to no more than 3 fish too.
Or you could scrap the idea of an ecosystem and just get a wennerae mantis.

Doesn’t ORA raise them on aptasia?

i didnt get mine from ora. also, pygmy filefish are like 1.5" and sedentary

could i still have ridiculously encrusted life on my rock with tons of diversity with things like starfish featherdusters coral and things.

if i did a mantis id get a peacock and the craziest psychadelic corals i could find
Peacock would need at least 30, very messy feeders.

I wouldn’t say sedentary, like puffers where they are slow but still active.

my aip eater hides under ledges or rests by the ato float valve or the filter inlet 90% of the time
Every one I’ve seen was rather active. Kinda sounds like it is the object of aggression based on what I’ve seen with other fish. Of course this is coming with no personal aip filefish experience though.

yeah, they are active when foraging. he proably is just chillin cause of how much pods and stuff he has to forage on. i think the pygmy would be ok. if i end up just saving my 10gl for qt which i might do to save money and just go all in at once and build a whole 75g without testing my life support idea. if i did 10g id prolly do gobiodon a pygmy file and a pipe and mabye a plectyranthias

A pipefish wouldn’t be able to compete with them in so small a tank (basically only mandarins and seahorses work with them).

Well depending on what pipefish. I have a blue stripe In with a pair of clowns and a cardinal and he’s doing great.
How long? Just curious. I know they are supposed to be incredibly difficult.
Do you have to target feed or does he eat along with the others?

If you mean white spotted Pygmy they are not sedentary and used my entire 80 cruising all over. Active as all hell. Aggressive when spawning.
