if you're using pure rodi water it should be neutral at a ph of 7

Yes, mine is R0/di. so going from 7 to 8.2 is fine for the fish? and vice versa?

Whatever it takes to up your ph. You'll have to test it.

That's good for general purpose, but just as a heads up to the OP there are some things (like flatworms) that can take longer.....longer (even 15+ min) won't hurt the fish tho. (Small fish do seem a bit more sensitive than bigger ones.)

Also, there's no mystery about when you ARE bothering the fish...they "flip out" and let you know immediately, so just put them back in the tank and try again in a little while. It was just surprising to them....next time they'll be chill.

Some fish might even seem to relax and go to sleep in the dip containter. Don't panic.

I have always just used COLD tapwater with dechlorinator in it and then I temperature acclimate the water by floating the container in the sump or tank for as long as needed.

The way in that link is overkill x5, but it'll probably work too.

(I don't see any advantage to it though....so feel free to do whatever is cheaper/more convenient/you like better I guess. )

I would use some type of filter just to collect any floating detritus even if.its a simple hang on back filter

Filled the QT tank last night, added a large live rock, have a filter pad with carbon running, and another filter pad that was in my sump for more biological filtration. LFS water was at 1.018, so I matched it. So I just need to float for temperature and drop the fish in there? So much easier than drip acclimation! will the Foxface get stuck in a net? trying to figure what is the best way to throw him in.

Filled the QT tank last night, added a large live rock, have a filter pad with carbon running, and another filter pad that was in my sump for more biological filtration. LFS water was at 1.018, so I matched it. So I just need to float for temperature and drop the fish in there? So much easier than drip acclimation! will the Foxface get stuck in a net? trying to figure what is the best way to throw him in.

Honestly i have no experience with foxface, all I know is they can poke you with venomous spines. So be super careful!

I would still do some type of acclimation. Because while the salinity matches, another parameter may not better safe then sorry

Right. So maybe float the bag and add some water little by little for 25 minutes?

Foxface looks so angry in QT. You usually keep the lights off for a few days? He turned black and white and his behind the rock. Now he is swimming very odd in the corner.

Most likely stress with the move. You can turn the lights on, really makes no difference IMO. Have you gotten him to eat yet?

Well he brine shrimp at the LFS right before I got him, and put him in QT around 7:15. He just hid behind the rock with his spine extended, and turned black and white. I left him alone. This morning I put a sheet of algae on a clip and left for work. Wife said he was finally out but swimming sort of vertical in the corner , and as soon as it noticed her he stood still. When I get home tonight I can turn the lights on and feed some mysis shrimp. Ammonia was at 0, salinity is 1.018. PH 8.1-8.2.

I would slowly up your salinity. Minimum of 1.023 keeping him in lowered salinity may stress him out more. Best way to do this is to turn off your auto tip off and top off with saltwater instead of freshwater

The reason I had it at 1.018 is because that's where the LFS had it. I don't have an auto top off on the QT so I will slowly add the SW like you said.
