240 gallon build

Quick update- Skimmer, ATO, Powerheads, Return Pump ordered! Suctions lift cups ready! 4 people trying to load tank tomorrow, ready!

Wish me luck, if the tank looks like he says it is, hopefully will have it back here tomorrow. If anyone near Hermitage is board tomorrow, I'm sure we can use a hand getting her off the truck.

In the meantime, I'm going to deal with the credit card fraud that popped up overnight. At least some in London had a good time at a kids hair salon haha!

It's rampant it happened to me twice in the last few weeks, Once for 2,000.00 the CC Co called me at ten at night to see if i made this charge online!

PS Hope you get a great tank and all the help u need, I am no good for lifting or would help.

Thanks Bill! I will wrangle this beast one way or another if it ends up working out.

Sorry to hear they got you too, crazy how often they're able to snatch info and use it.

Will post pics if all goes well tomorrow!

Which skimmer did you decide to put on this beast?

Brandon

Went with the SRO XP 5000 with the self cleaning head. Bill told me I could keep a baby orca with that unit. Would they call that an OOWLR build?

No, I am not waiting by the door for the UPS man ha!

So.... Did ya get the tank?

I was just thinking the same thing

Got it! Thank you to the club for having the suction cups available and to Kevan for meeting me so I could grab them. They were a serious lifesaver. Good news, the guy only had to take his front door off to get it out and I only had to buy my wife Cracker Barrel for putting up with 6 hours of driving. It looks pretty good cleaned up. The stand is going to make my sump planning interesting since it has additional reinforcement all the way around about halfway up the whole stand. Hoping to unload it sometime this week when I can rally some muscle over here. Crazy how much there is to do still before I can get it salty, but it's getting there!

I'm pretty close to you. Let me know when you going to unload it.
Thanks Bob, much appreciated. Thankfully I was able to bribe some neighbors with a 6 pack and got it unloaded into the garage. Hopefully only one more move after that.

Guys....my tank build thread title is a lie....I just measured and I believe I actually have a 250 on my hands (96x24x25). I'm thinking I might get a school of Vlamingi with that extra 10 gallons.

That tank is going to look Great full of corals. I can't wait to see it a year from now! That stand looks pretty low. You going to use it? Is that Glass or acrylic? Doesn't look drilled in picture.

Awesome, Tank looks like it was made by GC from the bracing i see in the photo but it looks great to me and must have been one of their better builds as they can do nice work when they want! Better go rob a bank to buy rock for that tank.
Bill

Looks like a nice tank. I built a 240 last year and I built my stand so the bottom of tank was at 40 inches. I thought I would have plenty or room but My Reef Octopus skimmer clears the bottom of stand by less than a half inch. It looks like your stand is about 24" tall. Not only fitting a sump but installing or removing any equipment from it might be a challenge. Unless you plan on having your sump in a location other than under your tank you better start thinking about the height and maintenance. Just a heads up as I almost messed mine up

Unfortunately it is glass and still needs to be drilled. Not sure about that stand yet, but hoping to use it if I can make it work!

If it is GC, I sure hope it is on the better end of that spectrum. I figured it might be cheaper to fly to Fiji myself and bring back rock?

Would love to see the thread for your build if you have one! That stand certainly wont fit my skimmer either, so I'm either going to plumb to a garage sump or suck it up and get another stand made. Would be a bummer since that would negate a good chunk of the savings, but I do want to do it right.

Good thing about metal stands is they can be altered. I would just have some height added to the one you already have and maybe add a center support and some bracing to add strength to keep it from racking. It will be cheaper than starting from scratch for sure. JMO
Bill

If you need help with drilling it let me know. I have all the glass bits. In fact send me a PM with your phone number. I love to come over and see where you plan to put the tank.

Great looking tank man! I like the dimensions!

Good idea Bill, I know you weren't too fond of your recent stand build. Do you have someone else I might be able to talk to?

Thanks man! I will say getting a 180 would have been much easier, but I think this will make for some interesting scape options. Thanks again for helping me out with the cups, total lifesaver!
