Oh, you won't be disappointed. Their signature is the black silicone...it makes it easier to inspect for imperfections.

I was looking for toolbox liners at first but all I could find is dimensions around 21" wide and that was going to mean I would have to run two across and didn't feel comfortable with that.

Plumbing question...

I have flipped out the barb to slip fittings, however as you can see I cut out enough of the stand to get a 90 or 45 elbow on, but not enough room for a union.

If I ever have to get it off I will be using a hacksaw... Will this pose a problem or should I be okay?

I am thinking I would put a union on after a 90 so I could salvage most of the plumbing.

You would have to hacksaw it off but that shouldn't be a big deal imo. A union after the elbow would be a good idea.

Not sure but is that mat big enough to accomodate the trim on the Deep Blue tank? The IM tanks are rimless all around thus exactly 48x24 vs the Deep Blue which is slightly larger dimensions because of the bottom trim.

I only bring it up because I am setting up a Deep Blue 60 and using an IM APS SR-120 stand. The tank doesn't fit directly on the stand so I attached a piece of 3/4" plywood to it to extend the dimensions a bit.

I also opted to swap out the plumbing for slip fittings on my tank.


I havn'y glued anything yet so Im still on the fence about union placing on my return. It will to be close to the gate valve unless I drop it a bit further down than the union off the overflow and i prefer to keep the return line close to the top as it is so i can easily add supports. These deep blues have some tight quarters for plumbing. What are you thinking for flow control on your overflow plumbing. This is a first Durso for me and it honestly kinda scares me a little lol.

Yes, it should be here tomorrow.

I also noticed the trim is a bit bigger than 48x24, however not by much. I will let you know as soon as I size it up.

I think it was only out by 1/4“ so 1/8” split on either side should be okay.

Overall trim on the tank is about 48 1/2" x 24 1/2". Also you could just put barbed fittings into the unions on the sump and run flexible hose to connect them so it would be easy to disconnect if needed.

I was advised those could be failure points, no?

I have a couple questions about the manifold.

1) should I use gate valves or ball valves?

I so far will have a carbon and phos reactor for it.

2) should I run the manifold inline with the return or should it run before or after the return back to the tank?

For a manifold, ball valves are fine usually since it's just on or off. If you want more fine tune control, gate valves are nice for that.

With regards to using vynal hose and barbed fittings, I've never had one fail. I've had them on every tank I've had over the past 10+ years.

I just set up a DB 80 and I opted for barb to barb for my drain with a vynal hose and just regular old hose clamps since they aren't submersed. Otherwise there are plastic hose clamps for underwater situations. Granted, hard plumbing looks nicer, but if the time comes and you want to pull your sump out....
