I walked in this morning and there is a hole that has developed on my toadstool leather coral… The only thing that I’m thinking it might be is I have a emerald crab that often will hang out underneath it.
Has anyone else ever had this happen it doesn’t look necrotic, it just looks like a torn hole

I will add a white light picture shortly

Welcome! Glad you joined. Going to defer to others as I've not had that type of toadstool leather. MACNA will be in PA this year, so I'm flying into PA next September! You must be excited to be so close. It will be my first.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you in Pittsburgh:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:

Welcome, glad you are here! I never had a toadstool, but I’ve had emerald crabs for over 17 years and never had a problem with my soft corals. I know someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.

I had to evict emerald crab for eating clove polyps and messing with a toadstool, which now has hole in it as well and was closed up for a week while the crab was running amok. Is doing fine now despite the hole and looks like it is going to split

This happen often when the leather goes into a shed which it will literally tear itself into sections or pieces and release them for reproduction.

This helps a Lot! Thank you - my wife suspected it was something like you described. Great relief thank you!

I’ll keep an eye on that crab - thank you!
