a hole in my Toadstool Leather coral - this normal?

Yep. IME it’s been the result of detritus settling in the coral. You usually see it in the bowl area where it settles for a while.

With clean water, good light and flow, mine have filled in the holes in time, with no deleterious effects to the coral overall.

It's normal. Soon you'll have a dozen or more toadstools. Mine did that a year ago and now I have them all over my tank.
