Better start documenting these hybrids. [HASHTAG]#lineage[/HASHTAG]
/sarcasm

Has anyone considered that if you have Hammer A that looks like the perfect hammer, it undergoes new/stressful conditions while reproducing new heads, these new stressed heads have a new look and reproduce normally producing the same appearance. It's still the same exact coral, except the polyps are changed slightly due to conditions.

I have six hammers in my tank, all with the typical hammer appearance ( ), except for the wall which is what most people consider an anchor shape which I've never seen a branching hammer have. 98% of my hammers have the normal appearance with a random underdeveloped polyp that has a weird shape etc, I think it's all natural and just takes time etc.

Without YEARS of hardcore documentation how do you know that one itsy bitsy polyp hasn't changed and a new one appeared in the same area? It's like when a meat coral changes shape it should be called something different.

If I had any bone to pick it would be with the classification of colors. Also, it doesn't matter how reputable a store is, a coral is a coral...are they going to tell you they got a freak of nature freebie or sell it for more, sell it for less, or maybe the same price as all the others with a unique name so you feel special...in the end it's business.

Funny you say that because this last one I asked for a pic And they sent me a pic of real frogspawn. Then after we traded and I got home I realized it was different and asked They said they just googled a pic because their tank lights were shut down for the night and didn't tell me
Yes but if I bought Tubs blues I would like to see a pic of them. Same with Euphyllia. There's frogspawn I like and frogspawn I don't. I wouldn't buy any rely on someone sight unseen to send me the right thing no matter what.

It would be misleading if someone showed you a pic of one and sent another but if you bought a frogspawn without seeing it and the tips were slightly different I wouldn't consider it someone misleading you.

Now that's a different story. That is misleading because someone purposely sent you a pic of a coral they knew wasn't theirs.

This is mine, I call it branching hammer but if I saw the same pic and someone was selling it as frogspawn or grape I wouldn't consider it misleading since it's all just common names.

Right side middle frog. Left side middle hammer. Top left, center, bottom right are all combos. I would nt describe any of those three as frog or hammer. And middle left is a "branching hammer" or "anchor" I believe.

Sorry, I thought you were quoting another picture, I didn't see yours.

I would say those are all hammers except for that one frogspawn. I don't understand why the name alone is bugging you so much.

Polyps are just filled with water, when it comes down to things it's all about the skeleton. If you really want to test it, frag a head of your 100% true hammer, and then frag a head of your mix up hammer and compare the skeletons.

Also another thought, these polyps are coming from a single head, why do you think every single polyp will develop 100%?

I don't know why, but I feel like this thread is going to lead to people pointing out the fact that pure bred euphyllia should be worth more than others since it seems like they are being wiped out via close proximity with other euphyllia that they don't sting via producing hybrids.

When I see these I think combo or pom poms. Lol defanitly don't see hammers or frogs

Don't get me wrong they're just as cool I just don't like being misled. As you can see I now have three mixes and I want a branching frog spawn which is how I keep winding up with more of the same one. That's what's killin me. I would pay the same amount.

It's funny because the pictures that are label as being "pure-bred" still have a polyp are two that aren't "hammer" shaped and are smaller heads compared to the others.

Nothing. A joke about their appearence

I know and that's the problem. It's a common name about a polyp that gets developed and is filled with water. The core of it is still a hammer. *I believe.*

For me it is not about each individual arm as much as it is the general look of the coral. These last three I posted pics of do not look like frogs eggs or hammers so I feel funny when people call them that. Even though one of them looks pretty close to a frog spawn and one looks pretty close to a hammer you can see the difference from a distance it is not a real closeness

I think you just need to find what suits you...what you are describing is the same thing that makes me upset about people saying this coral is "x" color.
