About ready to ditch my tank

Didn't read what the others mentioned.

I've battled and beat dinos 3 times for what it's worth.

My tactic.

1st time
Added UV - partial help
Added dinox

2nd time
Dinox

3rd time
Overfed
Changed filter media daily

My new method will always over feeding and changing media daily - If that doesn't work right to dinox. It works and it works well. Don't get turned off to the idea
Would you recommend running an airstone if I do not have a skimmer?

The more I read the more I feel it’s because I moved to quickly with adding coral when I did not have enough biodiversity in the tank. So essentially what you’re saying is by adding phyto/pods, I’m increasing the biodiversity which should help combat Dinos?
yup that could be part of the cause - as with anything else in this hobby, its rarely any one thing that caused it - how nutrient runs thru our system and how it impacts the growth of various organism is such a complex interconnected web of cause and effects that its very difficult to have a clear picture of every aspect of it.

Thats why "slow and steady" is emphasized so much.

Even in my 4 year mature tank, i get dinos sometimes (like right now). it happens every time there's a change in my check and balance. This latest "outbreak" is caused by me removing my fuge b/c i needed to start another round of vibrant to combat valonia fastigiata, which caused an increase in nutrient + removal of the macro algae competition - I'm not doing anything specific to treat the dinos as there's still a lot of biodiversity left in my tank - dinos just raced ahead by the vacuum left by the fuge removal + Vibrant killing algaes releasing nutrients. All i'm doing is blowing it off and scooping it up to keep it from getting out of hand and wait for the rest of my biodiversity to catch up and fill the void. usually it goes away after a month or so by itself (like the last time i had to go thru vibrant treatment)

In my younger days i may have freaked out at the sight of dinos and tried all kinds of treatments on day one which more than likely would have thrown my tank into further chaos and made dinos worse.

I don't see the need for the skimmer / vs airstone if you have powerhead blasting the surface.

Just get on top of your husbandry.

The dinos are not going to go away by looking at the tank daily and you getting all sad ! Take care of her she needs you now more than ever.

Yeah I’ve been in the hobby for quite a few years but this is my first real experience with Dinos. It’s been quite frustrating to say the least. They seem to be very mysterious little buggers. Hope everything works out in your tank!

I appreciate your help! I finally feel like I’ve hit a breakthrough with dosing phyto (or maybe raising tank temp but leaning towards phyto). I’m just glad to know if it fails I have some other options such as Dr. Tims or DinoX

I forgot to mention dose the crap out of phyto!! That helped time 2 and 3.

I dose it everyday and when I stopped while next batch came I got a little patch soon as I dosed and replaced media for a week gone

Honestly even before this battle I became interested in dosing it. I’ve seen so many people talking about it and it seems to be very beneficial to everything in the tank. I definitely think I’ll continue to dose it even if I don’t have Dinos

Don't forget the zooplankton with phytoplankton. I dose both together almost daily.
