Achilles Tang 101

I was having a problem with her tearing up nori sheets within a few hours even when I'd butterfly the sheet and cut strips... problem solved!

I was trying to decide between that one and the Two Little Fishies veggie pouch. I like both ideas, haven't landed on one yet. Either that or I can just buy some gutter guard, I already have a magnet. Is the magnet on the GG strong enough? Or is it more like Eshopps magnets.....

The magnet on the IM gourmet grazer is strong enough for 1/2" glass. I like it over the pouch for increased surface area go graze if multiple herbivores. For a single fish less an issue.

She's doing fantastic! Thanks for asking. She gave me quite a scare yesterday though, enough for me to throw up a 55g copper dosed quarantine at 2am...

She's gained a ton of weight, she's a little piggy! 2 nori sheets a day and she's a savage when she digs in. Hilarious personality for sure.

Thanks :) Her 55g QT is ready to rock as well. I'm ready at the drop of a hat. Hopefully I never have to use it on her. The UV sterilizer seems to be working well.

Yes I'm wandering as well. :)

Great info, hopping to get one here myself. How's the fish? I've been talking to my local shop. And him personally said he would not QT the fish just to reduce stress.

My Achilles Tang which I’ve had for 4 years now has had occasional bouts of Ich but always seems to get over it. It is the most sensitive in terms of getting Ich. They like lots of flow, lots of variety with foods and will eventually become a very dominating Tang. I will occasionally feed it small fish roe. And if it contracts Ich I will feed it Dr G’s medicated caviar or Nori that is soaked in Cloroquine Phosphate then dried in the sun. I store it in a zip- lock bag for the occasional times he breaks out with Ich. He seems to get Ich about once a year then it goes dormant. I have not added a new fish in years.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your success! FWIW, drying the CP soaked nori in the sun will mostly degrade the CP as UV breaks it down. Maybe just feed it directly after soaking?

My question is that are you using the Cloroquine Phosphate dried on the Nori in your reef tank? If so how much?

Because the Cloroquine Phosphate is so bitter, I had to guestimate the amount, if its to strong they wont eat it , so I put about an eighth of a teaspoon in a small spray bottle mixed with water Laid out the nori on a sheet of wax paper and spayed it until it was hydrated. Then let it dry. Once it is dry I used scissors to cut it up into small pieces to feed the fish directly in the reef tank. It never harmed any of my corals.
