Run a sister site and link/promote it here but don’t mess with r2r. If this site gets diluted/polluted with other hobbies then what’s the point? If we’re gonna do freshwater just because it’s in a glass box then what about reptiles and snakes then if we go there why not birds and cats and dogs? I come here and support r2r because Reef Aquariums are what this is about. If I have to wade through a bunch of hobbies that I’m not interested in to find what I want, I will use/support r2r less and less. Create a network of other sites using the r2r model but please don’t mess with what has already proven its self to work.

Exactly..... BOOOOOO freshwater.

I can barely tolerate those who keep FOWLER tanks here on R2R. Freshwater? Heck no!

;Wacky

Why would you think that - most people who have saltwater tanks have or have had freshwater tanks. My freshwater tank is larger - and probably more valuable than my reef tank. I think people shoudl stop making assumptions. For ME - (ME) I never felt the need to go to a forum for my freshwater tank - and become a member - I have gone to look up various things. This is different - I dont see a lot of innovation/new products/etc in the freshwater arena - there certainly is in the marine area - I think thats at least one difference

Keeping saltwater aquariums especially reefs is considerably more expensive than equally sized displays in freshwater.
Keeping a saltwater tank is considered more difficult than keeping a freshwater tank.
The reef hobby is a newer hobby than keeping freshwater tanks.
In general people think more expensive things are better than cheaper things, that more complicated/difficult things are better than easy/simple things, and that the new trumps the old.

I love FW, maybe not as much as SW, but it was my foray into the hobby way back in the day. I currently keep a freshwater mangrove display beside my 120 reef along with a 11 gallon planted rimless, for breeding endlers.

The reason I voted no to including FW in this forum is because this is a place for all aspects of SW fish and coral, which have a hard enough learning curve, as is. I have referred seasoned FW hobbyists wanting to learn about reef keeping to this site, many more times than I can count. It was critical that they could put aside what they already knew to weed through the noise and have a chance at success. As we all know weeding through the noise is not easy, even on a SW centered forum such as R2R.

I'll say again I really do enjoy the FW segment of the hobby, especially planted, aquascaped aquariums and some of the amazing youtube videos. Would be awesome if there was an R2R equivalent for FW.

Wow so the poll is still pretty close about 50 50 and it’s basically been this way for a while lol

I voted no - considered changing to the 'maybe option'. still am - the only thing that is stopping me is that a lot of the 'yes' votes have had multiple things they are 'saying yes to'.

Saying 'freshwater section' is very vague/general - and I dont know if you can interpret this poll because everyones view of what a 'freshwater section' would be is different (i.e. some yes votes may change to no - if its not their version - and some no votes may turn to yes if its a non-obtrusive small part of the site that doesnt change the way people more interested in saltwater use/view the site. Maybe you shoudl come up with a specific proposition - and post another poll:)

REEF 2 REEF specifically targets the saltwater & reefing community. Ca, Alk & Mag don't mix well with Goldfish ... just saying.
True which is why it should be a separate forum. However, a fish only with live rock is actually pretty close to a freshwater tank. The only thing different really is when you get corals that need to have the calcium alk or mag in the right range. Honestly, a freshwater tank might even be more complicated then a fowlr because when you get a lot of plants you need to watch the c02

If you did FW.... would you change the name from:

Reef2Reef
to
Fish2Water?

It would be like Chick-fil-a now SELLING HAMBURGERs
Nah probably wouldn’t change the name wouldjust have a separate forum either unrelated to reef2reef completely or at least separated

Booooo. It’s Reef2Reef, not fresh2reef o_O
We could change it to something like that lol. But srsly i think that it wouldn’t really affect the saltwater reefing community. Everything could be neatly separated and it might even me a completely different site

Before we keep going with this conversation and if and how it should be done, we should take a step back, and ask if there is any point in having these discussions in the 1st place. This question was raised by non staff member, and no one has any idea if whoever is owner of R2R would even consider doing this in the 1st place. No one has said if this is doable at all, so all these conversations might be all for naught in the end. If powers that be actually came and said, we will do this if community votes for it, then fine, but until then it is kinda pointless to discuss in details.

just my 2c.

Oh this poll clearly has no "actual" impact on how the site is run. Its not official whatsoever, to my understanding. Just a member seeing what other people think.

Hmmm... but then no one would be able to find it. Maybe like you know when you click forums? Next to forums , it should say freshwater forums that you can also click that brings you to the basic freshwater forum. One thing I think we should do is not separate too many categories

This. I think it would be cool to have a place where members could show off their freshwater tanks. I don't think it should be a whole huge forum that mirrors R2R in any way.

Lol I like the fowlr to reg fw comparisons. The only similarity is a box of water with fish. I really wish it was more similar believe me.

Yeah it’s not that formal but I brought it up to @revhtree and @Daniel@R2R who both said they are discussing it
