Almost everything died over night!!!

Could you give us the info on your tank please, age and size of the system and the parameters that you have tests for. Assuming by looking at the stock list, you have quite a large tank, did everything die at once? Is it over a few minutes/hours/days/weeks?
We are not ever hearing back from op after this thread.

Idk what happened all chems are normal salinity is perfect everything great!!!!
the only thing I can think of is my BF lowered the temperature from 80 to 75!
Whatever happened it killed our fully grown adult hippo tang , lion fish two damsels both of our maroon clowns
and our 1 harlequin shrimp and all the hermit crabs!!!!!
The only critters left other than coral and 2 anemones is our octopus and our snowflake eel are ok stressed but alive!
what happened is it as I suspect and the drastic change in temp in the tank killed them as I told him it may or is there something else I have overlooked???? Could putting crab meat made of polic kill everyone? That’s the only thing other than temp I can think of? Any help is greatly appreciated.

lost and heart broken in LA....
Something very fishy about this. In another thread she said she added 2 storm trooper clowns a week ago. No mention of them in this thread, just her maroon clowns. Did some of the other fish just get added as well? My guess something was added that had brook or something equally nasty to the tank.
Also the harlequin shrimp and hermit crabs never stood a chance of surviving more than a few days in a tank with even a small octopus!
Personally I thing she is playing an early April’s fools joke on us all.

I looked in OPs post history and she has said she has a 100 gallon tank...

She sad she has a 24 gallon and her boyfriend has the 100 gallon.

Hi its nice to be apart of this forum oh how I wish we had this back in the 80's when my dad and I first had our salt tanks. Now almost 20 years later starting a new 24 gallon tank I have two storm trooper clowns and 3 differently colored damsels and coral I LOVE my coral! And a purple tipped anemone. Its a small tank but I like it. Happy good times ahead and joyfully looking forward to some great interactions

2 days so very recently. I'm feeling very deflated about it because my boyfriend has a 100g salt and his 2 maroons immediately hosted his brand new purple tip in fact poor thing might need a restraining order against the big 4 inch female whose loving the crap outta it.

A fully grown blue tang, octopus, and lion fish in a 24 gallon tank could mean disaster which you experienced if that’s the case.

Agree, somethings fishy with this thread, if she really wanted help there would have been a response by now.

She hasnt logged back in since 630p yesterday. Maybe shes testing her tank water. ;Pompus
I did Indeed everything was good except ammonia was a tiny bit high
did a water change. let it cycle and tested it again everything is good nothing new just letting the tank run and cycle. Not putting anything in until the end of March. Thank you everyone for your time and effort.
i appreciate everyone very much.

i need to re edit this sorry I also have a 100g tank I recently rescued. So I now have 2 tanks.

Odd stocking list. What size is your tank?
we have two tanks a 100g and a 24g the big tank belongs to my boyfriend.ive spent the last couple of days testing and changing the water and letting the tang cycle awhile.

I ran my temps at 74-76 for a long time before going to 76-78. I cringed when I saw that stock list. I could see the Lionfish & Octopus killing everything.
Ironically in the crash the octopus and eel some coral and anemones have Survived my boyfriend now believes someone might have scared the octopus and it inked in the tank and killed everything.....I am not sure that’s what killed everything. but we still don’t know what happened and my tank buddies at my shop are baffled as well.

Well yeah, not a big shocker since you placed a dang octopus with something that will prey on them, namely the eel.
Octopus are poor candidates for community tanks and should really only be kept in species only set-ups.
If this is due to the octopus inking, run carbon and do a bunch of water changes.

I would recommend that you take this as a sign to rethink your stock list and make sure that the fish you get are suitable for your tank.

i'm not sure why it was added to a tank with fish & why no one tried to talk you out of doing this (Doesn't really matter at this point) but I would get rid of the Octupus or move it to it's own tank. Take this as a learning experience & remember to always make sure you investigate before adding things to your tank. This is the Best forum on the internet & there are a lot of people willing to help answer your questions.
