ok so the tank, without heat and lights on is a solid 70 degrees, I want it to be about 74 at the least and with the temp basically controlled by my room that would lack stability sooo, what kind of heaters do they make for tanks as small as 4 gallons? the smallest I can find is 50watts I feel like I wouldnt need anything higher than a 10watt heater if they make those.

Following along. Great build so far! Here is another option to heat your tank. These work great and I like them because it's 1 less thing you have to put in your tank. Good Luck!

so you can actually control temp and what not on this? that'd be really neat to use and for sure one less thing to add to the tank, have you used them strictly on nano's or large tanks as well?
Im getting super excited for this 4g tank because even if I dont end up winning to contest in going to have one sick little nano tank :xd:

Quick update, got the small reptile tank heater put on the back wall of the nano, going to see how that works out if not i'll try the hydor mini pad heater.
I also added some pre cycled filter media to the filter to help jump start the cycling process.

I put these in my sump a few months back to have some cycled media laying around for QT tanks so I figured they'd be a good addition to the nano based on the fact that they have an ENORMOUS amount of surface area due to their array of interconnected pores. According to the manufacturer a single 1.5" sphere has 240 sq ft of surface area. I can only fit two in the filter but if what the manufacturer says is true I think thats all id need

It just struck me, the tank has had water in it and been cycling for well over a week and i've neglected to put a picture up!

GOOD NEWS!! got the stuff for my LED's, bad news, I forgot some wire and I lack a soldering iron, so with that being said pictures coming over the next few days when I get a soldering iron

Ok only a few days until the contest really begins! im still waiting for a few final pieces for my LED's before I start construction however, I have been very anxious to start purchasing livestock for this nano build. while im unable to currently put it in the nano im very content to enjoy it in my 120 display
so with the being said I went and bought this The Blue Glow :: Zoas & Palys :: Deepwater Combo from my good friend Andy at The Blue Glow
the purchase price was $60. It is my understanding that since he is a sponsor here on Reef2Reef the purchase should count as $30 towards my grand total.
I have to say, these zoos are even better in person which surprised me because they looked so good in the pics. Goes to show that Andy has the intent of representing what his corals actually look like in person.

Got the LED's wired tonight, it was the first time I've never done anything electricity related and needless to say when I hooked up the power supply and plugged the LED's I was pretty much blinded(Success!). Im beginning to wonder if six 3Watt Cree LED's it too much because as I type this I still have floaters in my eyes from how bright they were lol. pics coming tomorrow!

here's the LED's just wired, I decided to go with individual heat sinks simply for aesthetic purposes, I hate the look of the big blocky rectangle heat sinks. Im actually going to mount them inside something, not sure what yet, and they will be concealed.
and here they are lit up, I know it looks as if the room is dark but the lights are actually on which I believe is a tribute to how bright they really are
