Another JBJ 45 build!

Good looking QT, I am setting one up as well. What type of power head is that? Also, what type of bubble/filter?

Thanks, it's a Hydor koralia nano 425. The sponge filter, idk the brand. Found it at a freshwater fish store for under $5, but I'm sure you could find them at any fs.

I'm looking into the same build once I save up enough, college isn't helping. But how much do you think you've spent on your tank overall?

More than I'm willing to admit. [emoji23]

I saved some money building my own stand, could have saved more if I bought used equipment from somewhere. I know someone getting a 75 together and has spent less than I have On this utilizing things like Craigslist.

It's good to plan everything out ahead, I would map it out make a list and price everything before you dive into it. Also add 10% for error or overlooked items.

I was planning on a slow build, but once I started I just had to get it up and running. So I recommend saving everything you need BEFORE you begin haha.

things are coming along really well. looking good

Thanks!

The Browns are long gone, but I got some greens coming in now. I've been feeding VERY heavily for the last couple of days because I found a dead nassarius snail. I was used to feeding 2 fish in a 10 gallon and didn't think about how I added over 80 animals from reef cleaners! I'll have to work on dialing it in, but it can handle heavy feelings for a while.

And Paul is waiting patiently to join the fun.

Here's the bubble catcher. I was excited about it yesterday before install, but it doesn't seem to be working like I thought it would.

It's completely submerged, maybe I'll shorten it up to where it's near the water line, or maybe the slots are half way above the water?

Still open to suggestions.

Ewww that bowing looks scary...im sure normal. But scary. Ive been looking into these for an upgrade and following your build closley....i was confused on how the skimmer and ato works on these tanks. I see the skimmer but wheres the ato? And is it specific for this style tank?
No the ATO just as the skimmer does not come with the tank. Most of us use the Tunze ATO nano and a Tunze skimmer either the 9004 or the 9001. I use a coralvue icecap PK50 but that's only be audio going to add a overflow box and a sump to mine.

Hey Doob I added 7 frags to my yesterday from World Wide Corals I'll take a picture in the morning and post them. Everything is doing fantastic right now

I'm using the Autoaqua smart ATO micro. It works very well. The ato Resevoir is below the stand, it comes with a submersible pump. The censor is in the middle section of the back "sump" area, where the return pumps are and the only section of the tank where the water level varies. The water line from the pump can be placed anywhere in there back, or even in the display area for that matter. I can take pictures for you if you'd like.

The skimmer (Aquamaxx hob-1) has an intake and return pipe, the intake is in the first chamber, which also houses the overflow and media basket. The output goes into the second chamber. Normal water flow goes between chambers 1 & 2 UNDER a baffle, the skimmer is carrying water over the baffle.

The sides of the "sump" are the same. 2 overflows, each side has a chamber 1&2, then flow over a second baffle into the center "return" section.

It's a great tank IMO, I'm a noob but I highly recommend it.

Still have a micro bubble problem, but I've designed a diffuser that I'll be making tomorrow at work, so that should be all fixed up soon.
Doob try adding some coarse filter pads or even fine and wrap it around the tube and zip tie it that should work

Also let me know if you want more pics or have questions about it!
Have you seen my tank? I have a video on YouTube ( just subscribe)
I'd post it here but I have a crappy voice. I'll do another in the morning look for bescher' little reef

No I was wondering how it was doing! I'll try to find it on YouTube.

I have a chocolate chip starfish in it, which has to go much to my chagrin. Two clowns that were in my QT and 7 frags. World wide corals said that they were all beginner corals easy to grow. At hey are
Hulk Lepto
Red monti
Birds nest
Red brick cyphastrea and two zoas
And a echinata

I can't find your YouTube channel, is it under the same username?

Glad to hear it's doing good, I'm not familiar with most of those corals. Did you QT them too, or dip?

I have a few zoas too, and a couple mushrooms. I'd like to get some hammer coral, but I'm waiting until I get my watchman goby out of quarantine.

I have the Aqua maxx hob skimmer with the bubble diffuser and I have no micro bubbles. I originally bought the one you have but the bubbles were awful. I emailed marine depot about the bubbles and they said there is a sponge you can buy to stop them.

Doob it's I under bescher' little reef
I dipped them but they were clean from world wide corals

I'm trying to avoid buying their bubble diffuser, I don't think it'll fit in the back of my tank.

Does the bubble diffuser sit above the waterline, or is it completely submerged, or somewhere in between?

Thanks for the reply!

Looks good bob! You have a lot of flow in that thing! Going to add a sump, huh? I'd like to have a refugium, but I'll probably go the hob route.

Well the sump/ refugium basically is one and the same. You already have a refuge setup, just peel back the back vinyl fro the outside basket area. Go to Intankllc.com ( I think that's the name) here's the link
http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Innovative-Marine-30-38-Fuge-Basket-IM30FG.htm
Then buy a fudge light and your all set
