Another JBJ 45 build!

I guess it's harder to see than I thought, but they've really filled out. Polyps are larger and there are 4 or 5 new ones.

What are they?
I have : Lepto
A monti, a birdsnest, a cyphastrea green zoa and a pomegranate zoa the green zoa looks good the rest not so hot had them a week and a half

Idk what they are actually, just that they're zoas. I mean, I posted the to the zoa ID thread, and people said eagle eyes, Miami vise and something or something. Seems to me like people just name the colors, but they're all zoanthids.

Yes I discovered that when they suggested to me a beginners frag pack and which I bought. My anemone looks like he biting the bullet he's completely very small his tentacles are completely hidden I don't know what it is tank parameters are great. But I'm still getting diatoms ( the brown stuff) on the walls of the tank. Not much but since I like to keep my glass clean it about a small ( 2/2 in ) patch every other day. I'm using a reactor filled with phosguard ( completely filled no tumbling) so who the heck knows. Lost a couple of turbo snails, don't think I've lost any crabs. Fish are doing fantastic all of them

I have a video I'm getting to put up on YouTube shortly by the part 1 of a 2 part series

Do you always run phosguard? I read that it's not for longterm use. I ran it for 5 days during my diatom bloom and everything cleared up, then back to carbon. Maybe long term is leaching something into your system. Or maybe it's your light again because anemones need light too. A toxin would explain why more sensitive inverts and coral are being affected but not fish.

I'm into the GHA stage, haven't seen any diatoms in weeks. I was trying to let it run its coarse, but finally reduced my lights to 6 hours per day and kicked up my flow last night (Ecotech mp10).

No I just started with the phosguard I was running biopellets for about a week but couldn't see if they were tumbling they were just rising to the top of the innovative marine reactor. Kicked up your flow? Hmm I have two ecotech MP10's one sits on the right wall bout 6 in down and 5 in back ( from front) and the other is on left side in same position. The anemone came out and is waving around I moved the light 3/4 towards the rear of the tank and put the frags on the back wall so they will get light. My light is on for a total of ten hours I may cut it down, it has different modes that I can set. I'm using the polyfilter which seems to help with toxins although I did find two more turbo snails gone this morning. I'm not blaming anyone here but no one can figure it out. Parameters are in line there is no copper detected

How did you know they were dead?

How high are your mp 10s running. I had mine max at 50% but kicked it up to 65. 2 is a lot for that tank.

Well when they don't move for several days and you pick them up and touch them and they don't retract or they fall out of the shell then I think they're dead.
I have been running mine right around 30% or less. I do kick up nutrient mode around eight at night and run either constant or lagoon mode. Will run pulse/ antisync at around 50% occasionally as well. But nothing higher than that. It's easy with Apex to match settings and change them

A day late but still good.

Wish I could get this dang algae under control.

They're neat. I went out and got a pistol shrimp for ours. Unfortunately, he killed (we suspect) our firefish. [emoji17]

Good morning gentle reefers.

As few of you probably know, I've been battle GHA for a couple of weeks. I'm happy to report it has been defeated, allow me to tell you about it.

The cause of the was a couple things. Nutrient export, of course, was one. Even more than that I, like many other newcomers, rushed my cycle and added a bio load as soon as I believed the tank could support it. The tank was "cycled", and could support my livestock, it had plenty of nitrifying bacteria to process the added ammonia and nitrites. What the tank did not have was the bacteria needed to take the nitrates to nitrogen, I added a bio load as soon as this bacteria started growing and didn't give it time to get a foothold.

So, small patches of GHA started popping up, electric green and not at all bad looking, almost like tiny lawns of grass all over my rock. I took the stance that it was part of "the uglies" and it too would pass.

It did not take long at all to completely overrun my tank. No longer tiny cute lawns, but ugly green everywhere. Quite hard to look at. So the battle began.

I ordered some GFO from my favorite vendor and began a 4 day blackout. I was able to add the GFO on day 2. There was still some green after lights came back on, but I suspect it was already too far gone to return. After 4 days on a 4 hour photoperiod, 2 @ 20% and 2 @ 40%, I wasn't sure that it was all dead so I blacked out for another 3 days. I'm slowly ramping my photoperiod and light back up to 11 hour and 85%, and I am excited with the results. And ecstatic that manual removal or dipping all my rocks in peroxide wasn't necessary!

I read a lot of people getting frustrated while fighting this, but the key is understanding the cause.

Have a good day everyone!

These 2 are very healthy and begging to join the others. Monday is the big day for them.

The larger one has worried me a few times, she is not a morning fish. I leave for work early in the morning and am usually checking in on them around 4:30. The little guy starts swimming around as soon as the light comes on, but the bigger one needs some time to wake up and get the juices flowing. She sits on the bottom motionless. 3 times I thought she was a goner, but every day after work she's just as happy and healthy as her partner. It's rather strange, but must be normal, I've read and heard similar stories from experienced clown owners.

Thursday afternoon it was acting funny, still not sure what happened. Added indirect flow to the tank.
