Another JBJ 45 build!

Hopefully I have what it needs. I'll see what I can do about getting some nitrates in there.

Thanks for the compliment!

No problem. It will still grow though. It was just very pale in my reef tank fuge so I moved it over to that tank and within 4 days was bright red again. It's pretty hardy algae lol

@cole0721 you blew me away with the care you took packaging. Well done. It arrived in one piece, fully colored. Also still on the plug [emoji6]

And thanks to my wife, we now have 2 pieces. Haha

Well, I can say that it doesn't look any worse since I moved it! I haven't been running my skimmer the last couple days, see if I can get some nitrates to register.

While I was at it, captured this...

From experience, it gets the red color from nutrients and the orange tips have to do with lighting.

I never had luck with it in my reef bc I run it low nutrients which was disappointing bc it's a beautiful display algae.

Judging by the green covering my rocks, snail shells, and emerald crab's legs, I thought I had excess nutrients!

You can't even really tell its there with the blues on, but I know it's there...laughing in my face...[emoji36]

Hi Doob,
I'm considering a JBJ rl 45 and spoke with the lfs and they have a person that builds stands for them starting at $250.00, I was impressed with your build of your stand, would you mind sharing the plans, even if they are in a rough form and the cost of materials?
And please keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Allen

Might just be adjusting bc where I had it was super high nutrient lol who knows!

Well I think I'll have to accept failure. In the shade it didn't really come back, but it didn't seem to get any worse either.

Put it back out in the sun yesterday, still on the bottom of the tank. Some of the leaves were so weak they just broke off from the water movement. I glued the broken ones to rocks and buried the plug again.

Pistol shrimp claimed most of what was left on the plug this morning. I now have 4 small leaves, glued to rock in different places.

Not feeling optimistic haha.

Here's some update pictures.

Finally got the Rodi that will hopefully fix my GHA issue ( I suspect the lfs was supplying low quality water).

Got the top off switched over to 0tds water and did a 10gallon water change yesterday. I'll do 10 gallon changes every Saturday for the next month or 2 and see how that goes.

Moved the corals around a bit.

I had small amounts of dragons breath in various areas of the tank, the bits at the top regained color, so it seems that my problem was not enough light. I reorganized all of it to an area at the top.

I'll begin a search for an orange BTA when I get back from a work trip at the end of the month.

My optimism is back.

Did you use a mix of 1x4's and 1x6's for the frame or is it all 1x4's? It's hard to tell by the photo.

dont plug them they do not effect the water level in the rear. your build is basically my build exactly except i have an aquarium controller
Those small holes in the back do indeed equalize the front and back of the tank. I tested it.
The build looks fantastic. People complain about the stock stand and since I don't have the tools to make one ( and I can't cut a straight line if my life depended on it) I bought the stock stand and lined the sides and top with two rows of 1x 3 strong enough

Also think about replacing the stock two pumps with only one. You can get y adapter from Marine depot ( watch their build on the JBJ.

I did and mine is much quieter. But I went further and bought a cube sump and overflow and I love it

Those little holes also relieve pressure on the back chambers.

I agree with removing the two pumps and getting one. I got a DC3000 adjustable pump and has been running great for for 7+ months now.
