Clownfish?

You have to remember that the level of potential contaminants/irritants in a reef tank will be in much higher concentration than natural sea water. Even with regular water changes, heavy we skimming, carbon etc it's in there. there. I can mix up fresh salt water (Red Sea Pro)dunk my arms in and let them air dry and not be phased but if I am working in the tank and after a little while my forearms will start to itch when they dry out if I don't rinse them off right away. I can go to the beach and spend all day in the water and not have an issue either.
Got ya. I misunderstood and thought you meant fresh mixed SW caused a rash

Great thread.

I’ve been into SW tanks since 14 years old. Took my wife on our honeymoon to Borneo in 2001 (we were 22 y/o). My wife was born and raised in W Michigan and had never left the country prior.

One morning she was running on the beach while I was messing around with the reefs. I cut my foot wide open and deep. This Malay man (he pronounced his name is “Shoo pee”) appeared out of nowhere as I was gushing blood from a very deep gash. Shupi (no clue on spelling) wouldn’t let me touch my gash and pulled out a bottle of “nail polish” and treated my gash. He disappeared as quickly as he appeared.

Woke up the next day dang near healed. I’m still to this day convinced it was super glue. Lol.

We left our honeymoon early a few days later after a monitor lizard jumped in the hotel pool.

We’ve been all over SE Asia and are still happily married, somehow.

I’ve had many minor injuries and a major jolt when a heater broke some years back. The worst I’ve seen though my buddy contracted vibrio and ended up in the icu with a 50-50 chance to survive.

I just tore my Distal bicep tendon lifting my stand in the house - just had surgery - it had torn the other one also playing softball 3 years prior - so I basically have my empty aquarium sitting there ready to be put together and to finish my scape - in 6 weeks

Blue green black axil chromis bite me just like that. Too fast for me to remove. Unfortunately I have 5 and they break my sps as well. Still have bite scars

Aren't the chromis and clownfish all types of damsels? Those suckers are all mean as hell.

Stabbed myself in the hand with a worm tube. Major infection. 3 different antibiotics before they found the right one. 4 months of fighting so I could use my right hand. Of course I am right handed.

I know the feeling!! :D I set up my 150 3 years ago. I tore my right tendon right around the same time. Had to have some buddies pick the tank and stand up to deliver it to me. Stared at it for 4 months in my garage. Good way to teach patience though.

I've had a million cuts and a million bristle worm attacks but my main one was a Palytoxin event that left me in hospital for a week.

My wife didn't like where I had placed the tank (150gallon) in relation to the wall, so she decided to try and move it herself, even though it was about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way full... she slipped on some water, fell and twisted her leg. I thought it was a torn ACL (I heard the pop, and I'd heard that before while playing football in High School).

Turns out, she tore her meniscus, and broke her patella (knee cap if I'm using the wrong term). That was 3 months ago and she's still having to wear a knee brace in hopes that she doesn't need knee surgery.

Legally blind in left eye as a result of getting squirted with some mushroom juice and developing a nasty infection that ate 60% of cornea

was scraping a mushroom off rock with razor n a stream of juice shot right into My eye
Similar but from a paly or zoa. Culling then back underwater, washed afterwards but apparently not good enough. Woke at midnight like my left eye was on fire. Unbelievable pain. Went to ER got flushed and given steroid drops. 3 days later, the colored part of my eye starts turning white and I get bloody tears. Melted my whole cornea and bored a hole to my inner eye. Emergency cornea transplant. It took but scarred up from still having Palytoxin in my mucus membranes. Legally blind in it now. Will get an artificial cornea once technology gets a bit better. Too great of a long term infection risk with what is out there now but they are getting real close with stem cell & collagen ones. Stripped the tank bare and started over. SPS only now . I have a pretty gnarly pic but not sure it will be allowed.

I should add. Depth perception came back pretty quickly but driving at night still is a struggle. Very “flat” and 2 dimensional. My vision actually improved dramatically in my good eye. Kind of cool how the body adjusts.

Sorry

that’s rough

I feel Your pain

how long ago was it?

I really never notice it anymore so for me I wouldn’t mess with cornea transplant

it used to bother me watching tv at night
There would be a halo around the whole left side of the tv
Like a full on ring that was outside the tv
Forget about it when I first tried driving at night, I though traffic on the other side of the road was coming head on at me

it’s amazing how resilient we are and I don’t notice any of it anymore

now I feel like I’m one of those bad butt one eyed sea gulls you see that runs the beach and no one messes with it

Agreed

vision ask improved in my good eye

Worst part was it happened a week before I was leaving on a surf trip to El Salvador!!

missed that trip

been on Better ones since though

It’s funny too

I can see a difference in the shape in my eyes when I have some drinks

luckily I don’t drink much anymore but it used to bother me in my single days
I’d catch a buzz
Look in a mirror and feel like a Mongoloid
