ANYONE ever have a fish totally disappear?

Now check everywhere not around the tank. One of my first fish was a firefish and of course it jumped but I found it weeks later on the other side of the room on the bottom of a bookshelf. Hopefully it is just playing hide and seek in your tank and not outside of it.

Had a mandarin fish disappear never seen again....... And in my freshwater tank had a fish that i had for 3years disappear too BUT i think my cat went fishing lol the lid was too small so had a gap in back next couple days seen her up there next to it looking very interestingly at it

yes I have had fish dissappear and never be seen again. I have had some disappear and then be foud in the overflow, so check that. I also have had some dissappear for over 2 weeks then come out. Just give it time chances are with that newof a fish its just hiding

My lawnmower disappeared over 4 months ago. I am still looking for it. Pretty sure the crabs know what happened. I think we all know what happened, still it's a mystery.

Yes, as most anemones do, can, and will eat fish, carpets are really good at it. Most fish its accidental specially if there new to the tank and don't know the lay of the land. Also a new entry to the tank could be skittish and accidentally dart into the anemone meeting its fate....I once had 3 saddle back clowns (ed, edd, and eddy) and a large carpet easily 10in around. Well every time we would attempt to put a new arrival in the tank we would have to supple silver sides too. The clown fish (mainly the dom) would come up grab the silver side and take it to the anemone and shove it in feeding it. she would also do this to new arrivals unless tricked with a silver side...Though bubble tips are not normally fish snatchers their tentacles do carry stinging harpoons which will stun and kill the fish and the fish will get wrapped up and consumed.

Did you notice your anemone looking any different after your fish disappeared? like was it a little more deflated maybe looked like it was just opening back up? Maybe a little fatter and happier?

It was the first time I’ve seen the BULB tips since I got it . It did close up and re open , that’s when it looked more bulby.

hmmmm...if you can place its actions at or around the time of the disappearance then im willing to bet its a good possibility he got eatin do to the anemones reported actions.....but one major thing we have to look at first as others have been stating.

do you have rocks with holes and pockets in which this fish would dart into that you wouldnt be able to see it? If so there is a good chance that it is in a hole. Fire fish are hole dwellers and they usually have whats called a "Bolt Hole" in which they use in case of emergencies.

Firefish are excellent at hide and seek, mine loves to do it just to stress me out. As soon as I'm convinced she (he?) is dead she's like "peek aboo! Here I am, you dumb human!"

Give it a few days before you start worrying.

I added a regular firefish yesterday to my DT . 2 hours after he was added he disappeared and I haven’t been able to find him since !!!! Checked around entire tank ! Checked overflow . My only thought is he’s hiding in the rocks somewhere .

I added an awesome looking Naoko Wrasse ($90) and haven't seen him since I put him in three weeks ago. Maybe he is still alive and kicking, but I doubt it.

Tons of holes in my rocks . I’ve aearched every hole I can see and nothing .

dang that sucks, I hope it just burried itself into the substrate and will come back to you....beautiful choice on fish by the way.
