ANYONE ever have a fish totally disappear?

Tons of holes in my rocks . I’ve aearched every hole I can see and nothing .

There really good hiders....your anemone though, something tells me that's were it went, but if that happened I believe the fish went to dart and took the wrong direction.

I've had 3...two yellow watchman gobies that I put in 5 months ago and have never seen since, and a diamond goby.
The diamond goby is the odd one...it was big...around 6 inches. It was in my 90g tank and then somewhere in the process of taking my coral, rock, and fish out of the tank during a move it disappeared. It wasn't in the old tank, in its overflow, the sump, the floor...no where. I took all of the sand out of the old tank looking for it.

dang that sucks, I hope it just burried itself into the substrate and will come back to you....beautiful choice on fish by the way.

It's not a sand burying wrasse, so if he is in the sand then another fish put him there.

I know fire fish are a mid water where they hang over the reef close to there bolt holes waiting for passing food in the current.

Is it safe to assume the fire fish went to the bottom of the tank while in there and visible due to being new to the tank?

I have a mccosker's flasher wrasse that stays out in the open everyday but hides at night. I have spent several hours total at night with a flashlight trying to find him with no luck. The next day he is out in the open again.

Also had a diamond watchman goby bury himself under a large rock and didn't come out for three days.

My golden Head Sleeper that vanished was chillin under a rock with the pistol shrimp......all the sudden the next day gone, so i just waited being it was only a week before my new tank transfer and I figured Id look for him then....welp no luck. just gone lol.

with this image my personal opinion is this, Beautiful picture, and With the size of that anemone and its placement in the lower section of the tank, there a good possibilty it was dinner do to an accidental darting gone wrong....but I also notice in that image a good bit of rock and unless your pulling that rock out and shining a light in the holes id count on seeing that fire fish again.....if theres one fish that will find a hole you cant see its that one.

LOL yes I had a medium size powder blue tang disappear, then a clown fish disappear. This was like 25 years ago. I had live rock from the south pacific and I had a mantis shrimp , had to tear the rocks apart to get him out lol

Insane....I hear clacks in my tank but I have a tiger pistol and the other day I got to watch it use its clacker to chip a rock....AMAZING!...I wish i could have filmed it....none the less im starting to wonder if I have a hitch hiker in a live rock, I just found a little crab I didnt know i had lol

Had to break the tank down to have new flooring installed and he came out of a hole in the live rock as I was removing it, perfectly healthy. Put him back the tank when I reassembled the tank later that day and haven’t seen him once in the three months since. I’m sure he’s in the same little cave, doing just fine...

wow that cool and intriguing....have you ever thought of setting up a camera at night to film its habits? Its got to be coming out at some time even if its sticking close to the rocks. If you decide to try to catch it red handed then please keep me in the loop id like to know a little more on the captive habits its showing.

My juvenile hippo Tang was swimming around last week then I got home from work and I haven't seen him in over a week. Dead for sure but no clue what got him

I would think with a pistol shrimp in there if I did have a mantis Id know by now because they would have met up.....but I just set up my 120 gallon tank and my pistol was on one side that night, the next moring he was all the way across the other end of the tank under a new rock. Maybe he got chased out? See the thing is when I had my 40 gal breeder set up with him in there he chose a rock from the moment I dropped him in and never changed rocks the whole time and when I upgraded tanks I knew were to find him. Now hes across the other side...maybe im to much in his butt and need to let him roam hahaha
