Anyone have an "anemone island"?

I think one of the best tanks I had seen with sos had a rbta island in the smack middle of the rock work. Filled with bright red nems.
The tank was from Singapore I think

So dumb question probably from reading this thread about the nem foot, so @Mical you dont glue these down right? Yet you got those three just all stay in the same spot like that?

Never glue a nem down. They just chose to stay there- most likley optimal lights and flow.

Ok i didnt think so but was just wondering how he managed to get all three to just plant themselves there. Thats the sweet spot in the tank then

No, don't glue them down. They do wander around on that rock but never leave it. The two mated clowns that are also 8 years old lay eggs almost monthly on it also.

I want a nem but Im nervous about the wandering, and was also concerned about the clowns I have not wanting to go near it. should the Nem have been introduced earlier when i got the clowns? The clowns were a mated pair and have been in the tank for about 6 months now.
And does having clowns increase the success rate of keeping the Nem satisfied and not wandering off? Or is that more related to placement and water flow and light

Not all nems will host the clowns . They anemone doesn’t need a clown to be happy and clowns don’t need one too.
The anemone will keep moving until it’s comfortable and has nothing to do with hosting clowns

At least w/mine nems seem happy. I've seen the clowns drag food into nems. I originally had them in a 29g tank and when I moved them to the 65 the clowns were actually in the closed up nems when I moved them, saved me the fuss of chasing clowns.

I have 15 BTAs in my tank currently. All of them have stayed within a few inches of where I originally placed them. One thing I did do with MOST of them was allow them to attach to a small piece of rock first then place in tank. The others I just placed on rock with good size holes for them to find a nice place to sink their foot into. I did have 1 that randomly decided to move from the far right front of tank to the back middle of tank (can see it in picture below, it’s the one almost touching mini colony of green slimer). While I have had one or two “touch” my SPS from time to time I have been lucky enough that no damage was done to my SPS during the times they were touching. I do try to be place my SPS in high enough places on my rocks that the chance of a bra deciding to wander up that high is very unlikely.

I feel like most anemones that naturally live on rocks won’t travel across sand in hopes of finding other rocks. I have however seen anemones detach completely and float around when they are SUPER unhappy. Pretty rare when the tank and anemones are established though.

Agreed. Never had a bubble tip walk across sand.

So in this tank I knew magnifica is what I was going to keep, so this is how I scaped for it.
Key is make an island high up, and far enough away that they don't touch glass, they will want to stay high up towards light, so that is what I provided.

Not only has my mag stayed put, but randomly I had to move this tank twice in the year I've had this mag, and even w/ taking tank down and putting it back, placing it back on same pillar it still stayed right where I put it.

yeah every couple months one of the btas will move onto the main rock, i just remove and put back onto the island

This is my Island with 5 anenomies
Started with one and I now have five and they always stay together on this island.
